Ploughing Presentation.

North Tipperary ploughing committee presented the winners with their prizes on Saturday night last in The Yanks Borrisokane.  The committee also held their main draw and the sponsors draw. The winners of the main draw was: 1st €300: Elaine Kelly, Nenagh. 2nd: €200: Sam Neill, Carlow. 3rd: €100: John Slattery, Coolbawn. 4th: two one day passes to the National Ploughing Championships: Richard Alexander, Fivealley. 5th: Hamper: Colette Bouchier, Lorrha. 6th: Chocolates: Brian Hehir, Carrig. 7th. Bottle Wine: Deirdre O’Meara, Rathcabbin.
The winners of the sponsors draw was: 1st: John Slattery (Coolbawn), 2nd: John Horan Tyres, Lorrha, 3rd: Younge Oil, Templemore, 4th: John Hastings & Sons Roscrea.
Chairman Ray Clancy thanked everyone who sold and bought tickets and paid a special tribute to the sponsors for their support.

Church News.

Vigil Mass in Redwood Church will be at 8.00p.m. commencing Saturday, 7th April. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament  will resume on Thursday coming,  5th April in Rathcabbin Church  from  10.00am  to  8.00pm. Eucharistic Adoration National Pilgrimage to Knock Shrine will take place on Sunday, April 29th.  First Friday Mass on April 6th will be celebrated in Lorrha Church at 8.00p.m with Confessions beforehand.

Lorrha N.S. Enrolling.

Lorrha National School are enrolling for September 2018. Enrolment forms can be downloaded from the school website www.lorrhans.ie. You can also call to the school and collect a form, or give us a call on (090) 9747295 and we will pop one in the post to you. New Garda.

Many congratulations and  good wishes is extended to Catherine Bourke, Rathcabbin who graduated recently from the Garda Training College in Templemore. Catherine, who has been assigned to Roxboro Garda Station in Limerick, took up her position on Tuesday last April 3rd. Well done Catherine and all the best for the future in your chosen career.

Age Research.

Do You know of Someone Aged 100years or more? Athlone Institute of Technology are conducting research into the health and wellbeing of Irish Centenarians, and are looking for volunteers to take part. Contact Alison on 087 2635911 or at fagan@research.ie.

Recent Engagements.

Congratulations is extended to Amy Duane, Lorrha and Shaun Howard Ballinasloe who announced their engagement recently and also to her sister Natalie who along with Cathal Brophy announced their engagement recently. We extend all the best in the future to both couples.

Bramble Art Exhibition: 

Portumna library is hosting a children’s art exhibition of creations by the students of Ute Duggan “Bramble Art” from April 7th – 19th, opening on Saturday 7th at 3pm. All welcome.

The best of luck is extended to Patrick Maher, Brian Hogan, Eoin McIntyre and John Madden when Tipperary take on Kilkenny in the League final on Sunday next April 8th at 3.30pm in Nowlan Park.

When cleaning out your wardrobe to make room for the new collection, please remember Lorrha Development/Tidy Towns who continue to collect unwanted clothes throughout the year. Items of clothing must be clean and dry and in good condition please and we can supply bags if you want. We can also collect to make it easy for you, just call (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (087) 2601413 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows, cushions, carpets, rugs and mats including bath toilet and shower mats soiled or wet clothing but good quality unwanted clothing for re-use (not recycling). All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village. Back by Popular Demand.

Back by popular demand is Nenagh library’s ‘Spring into Storytime’ on Friday, 6th April. Part of a nationwide initiative to encourage adults and children to read together at home ‘Spring into Storytime’ will also provide a welcome distraction for busy parents trying to entertain the little ones over the Easter holidays. With three different storytelling sessions, at 10.30am / 11.30am and 2.30pm, interspersed with arts / crafts and colouring, as well as our kids draw for yummy prizes, Friday 6th April  promises to be a fun family day during the Easter break. And best of all?  It’s free

Lotto Win

There was one lucky winner of this weeks lotto jackpot of €4,800, Mary O’Meara of Redwood selected the lucky numbers which were: 8-18-20-28 The winning ticket was sold by Pat Hough and Pat wins €300. Congratulations to both.

Senior: With Tipperary progressing to the final of the Allianz Hurling League, Lorrha’s upcoming schedule has been confirmed. Firstly, they will play Moycarkey/Borris in the Seamus O Riain Cup on Sunday 15th April in Moneygall at 2.00pm. The North Championship first round game against Kilruane MacDonaghs will be played on weekend 21-22 April

Junior: Lorrha’s game against Ballinahinch on Easter Monday was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. Next Friday, Lorrha play Kiladangan in Puckane at 7.00pm

Under 21 Hurling: The first round of the North Tipp Under 21 ‘B’ Hurling Championship will be played over weekend 4-8 May with Lorrha drawn away to Shannon Rovers Gaels in a knockput/losers group format.

Minor Hurling: Lorrha Rovers Gaels start their Minor ‘A’ Hurling campaign on Thursday 12th April at home to Ballina.

Under 16: Lorrha Rovers Gaels were due to begin their U16 campaign on Easter Monday against Ballinahinch/Templederry but the game was rained off. Next Monday, 9th April, they are away to Inane Rovers in Roscrea at 6.45pm

Under 14: Lorrha began their U14 ‘B’ Football Championship last Wednesday with a gritty 0-6 to 0-5 win over Kiladangan in Moatfield. Next Wednesday, 11th, Lorrha are due to play Newport in Moatfield at 6.45pm

Under 12: The U12 football championship continued on Friday last the ‘B’ team hosting Borrisokane and enjoyed a comfortable win while the ‘D’ team lost to Ballinahinch. Lorrha have a bye this Friday before resuming away to Burgess on Friday 13th April.

Coach Eduction: A coaching session with a trained coach will take place for the under 12’s on Tuesday 17th April, for those doing the Level 1 coaching course. Anyone else is welcome to attend on the evening to observe. For more information, contact juvenile chairman Tommy Kennedy 0879191689
