Lorrha Annual Christmas Market.   Please support.

A reminder that the Lorrha Annual Christmas Market and Auction will take place this coming Sunday 3rd December with doors open at 1.00pm. There’s timber and turf, hay, straw and silage along with meal and numerous other items going under the hammer. Raffle tickets will be on sale for a hamper and other spot prizes.
The committee are still accepting items for the auction so if you have anything that you think is suitable to go under the hammer, please contact Louis (086) 849 3595.  Santa will make his usual visit at 2pm and NOT as advertised on road signs and will meet and greet all the children. The auction will commence at 2.30pm. There’s something at this market for everyone, so do please support. Proceeds go back into the village.

2018 Calendar.

The Lorrha Dorrha calendar is now in shops throughout the parish and can be purchased in Pat Hough’s, Friars Tavern, Colette’s hair Salon and Sceal Shop, Ferry Service Station, Ferry Inn,  Brophy’s Rathcabbin, Buckley’s Super Valu Birr,  O’Meara’s Super Value, Lorraine’s hair Salon, Boathouse and Salmons Newsagents Portumna and in Heenan’s Borrisokane. The calendar will also be available to purchase during the Christmas Market in Lorrha on Dec 3rd.  This is a lovely keepsake as well as a great present for anyone but especially for those living away from home. Proceeds from the sale goes to help keep three people on a scheme in Lorrha village. Please support.

Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to the family and relatives of Mrs. Eileen Sullivan, Surrey and late of Derry,  Rathcabbin.  Her remains will arrive in Our Lady Queen of Ireland Church, Rathcabbin on this Wednesday 29th at  6.30pm.  Funeral Mass on Thursday at 11.00am followed by burial in Bonoham Cemetery. May she rest in peace.
Sympathy is extended to Miriam Craughwell and family on the unexpected death of Oliver, Woodlands Park, Birr and late of Grange, Lorrha which occurred on Friday 24th. Nov. After funeral Mass in St. Brendan’s Church Birr on Monday last, burial took place in Clonoghill Cemetery, Birr. May he rest in peace.
Sympathy is extended to the family and relatives of David Haslam, Portland, Lorrha and late of Moorpark, Birr which occurred Saturday 25th Nov. Private cremation took place on Monday last. May he rest in peace.

Church News.

Mass on Wednesday, 29th Nov. in Lorrha Church at 7.30p.m. for the Holy Souls.
First Friday Mass, Dec 1st  will be celebrated in Lorrha Church at 7.30p.m.
You are warmly invited to the official ceremony to mark the illumination of the Light Up A Memory Tree at Milford Care Centre on Sunday 10th December 2017 at 6.00pm.  The ceremony will incorporate carol singing Prior to the illumination of the tree followed by refreshments.   Each person remembered on the tree will be enrolled in the Light Up A Memory Book which will be on display in the Hospice during the coming year.  Lights will be switched off  on Sunday 7th January 2018 at 6.00pm,  when Mass will be celebrated at Milford Care Centre for all those remembered on the Light Up A Memory tree. Your support is gratefully appreciated.

Retreat.

Youth 2000 invites all young adults between  ages of 16 – 23 to a Catholic weekend retreat taking place from 8th – 10th  December 2017 at Newbridge College, Co Kildare. This will be an exciting weekend attracting over 600 young people from all over the country.  The weekend is being organised by young people for young people.  Parental consent is essential for those under 18.  All meals are provided for and accommodation is onsite!  Don’t let money be an obstacle; just bring a donation and a sleeping bag.  Newcomers very welcome! Redwood NS Christmas Variety Show

Our Christmas Variety Show will be held on Wednesday, 20th December at 7.00 p.m. in the GAA Centre, Moatfield. Admission is free. A highly entertaining night is lined up with ‘ A Night Before Christmas’, Dance It Out hip hop and the hilarious drama ‘Redwood Nursing Home’. So come along on the night for lots of Christmas fun!!!

Redwood NS Christmas Fundraiser

Redwood NS will have a car load of timber for sale at the Christmas Market in Lorrha on Sunday, 3rd December. We will also have a cake sale table in the hall to purchase delicious cakes, buns and treats.  Our Christmas Raffle tickets will be on sale on the day also with 2 x large hampers, 10 x bags of turf and lots of spot prizes up for grabs! The draw will take place on the night of our Variety Show. Tickets are €2 each or 3 for €5 and are available from all parents.

Lorrha Camogie:

Commiserations to our Junior B camogie team who lost out in the county final to Ballina on a scoreline of 1-09 to 1-05. Many thanks to supporters who travelled to the Ragg for the match and all those who supported the team throughout the year. We would like to thank our trainer and manager David Sullivan, our chairperson Bernie Cleary, our physio David Broderick and our secretary Juliet Hoary for all their hard work and dedication on behalf of the club all year. A huge thank you also to our sponsors- Keith Brady for a lovely set of club jumpers and all in The Ferry Inn Bar & Restaurant for their continued support.
Congratulations to our under age players, who play with Shannon Rovers Camogie, Captain Celine Guinan and Nicola and Emma Kelly on winning the U12 county final. Congratulations also to Francis Bugler, Emily Needham, Lisa Duggan, Celine Guinan and Niamh Ryan on winning the U14 county final with Shannon Rovers camogie recently. A wonderful achievement for all involved.
GAA-Well done to the U21 hurlers on their North final victory last weekend.
Thank you to everyone for supporting our club all year and we look forward to another enjoyable year of camogie once again next year.

Congratulations and best wishes is extended to Niall McIntyre, son of Aidan and Pauline, Portland, Lorrha who graduated recently with a honours BA in Irish and Journalism from Dublin City University. Well done Niall and many good wishes for the future.

Great Win.

Congratulations to our U21s who defeating Golden 0-16 to 1-12 after extra time on Saturday last in Dolla in the County Semi final. They now go on to the County Final on Sunday next in Templederry at 1.30pm and we wish them the best of luck. Well done to the team and management.

Winter De-Clutter.
When cleaning out your wardrobe to make room for the winter collection, please remember Lorrha Development/Tidy Towns who continue to collect unwanted clothes throughout the year. Items of clothing must be clean and dry and in good condition please and we can supply bags if you want. We can also collect to make it easy for you, just call (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (087) 2601413 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows, cushions, carpets, rugs and mats including bath toilet and shower mats soiled or wet clothing but good quality unwanted clothing for re-use (not recycling). All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep one adult employed. Open Day.

The Healthcare Support Course is having an Open Day on Tuesday December 5th from 9:30 to 16:00, at Birr Further Education Centre (the Outdoor Education Centre). The next course will begin in February 2018, (priority given to those aged 18-35) – all are welcome to come along and find out what options are available. St. Cronan’s Service Community Employment Vacancies.

GAA News

Under 21: Our Under 21’s dug deep once more to defeat Golden Kilfeacle 0-16 to 1-12, after extra time, in the County ‘B’ semi-final in Dolla last Saturday. It was the teams third one point win in a row.

Next Sunday 3rd December, all roads lead to Templederry where Lorrha face off against Moycarkey/Borris in the final with a 1.30pm start. We call on one last effort for supporters to turn up in big numbers to help the team win the title for the first time, with the cup named after former club stalwart Mick Brophy.

Juvenile Table Quiz: Lorrha Juvenile Club’s annual fundraising table quiz in Moatfield is on this Saturday 2nd December at 7.30pm. With the county final on Sunday, this should be a great community event for all to attend and provide vital funds for the juveniles for 2018.

Fundraiser: The clubs 2500-to-1 fundraising draw with a prize fund of €10,000 will go ahead on Saturday 2nd December as part of the juvenile table quiz. We are urging all club members to make one final push to get the tickets sold for what is a vital fundraiser. Your support would be appreciated.

AGM: The Annual General Meeting of Lorrha GAA Club will take place in Moatfield on Tuesday 19th December at 8.00pm. Nomination and motion forms have been emailed to members. Anyone who would like one posted should contact Michael Kennedy.

Juvenile AGM: will take place in Moatfield on Wednesday 6th December at 8.30pm.

Senior Manager: Lorrha GAA club are inviting expressions of interest for the role of senior hurling manager for 2018. All those interested are to contact Graham Houlihan 0876827257.

Juvenile Fitness Session: Neutral Adaption training for U10’s up to U16’s will take place in the Sports Hall, Moatfield this evening, Wednesday 29th November at 7.00pm. Noel Hogan will undertake the session which includes best strength and stability practice in the ankles, knees, glutes and quads. This session will be of great benefit to boys and girls. Cost is €10 for RIPTOOL resistance band which will be supplied from where juveniles can take home and practice. A parent is required to attend on the night. Laochra Gael: Congratulations to Tom Milne, formerly of Redwood and long time resident in London and Seamus King, Cashel and formerly of Redwood, who were presented with Loachra Gael awards by Tipperary County Board at the annual awards in Thurles last Sunday.
