Rathcabbin Players Secretary Fiona Kennedy will travel to the Special Olympics in Los Angeles in July as a volunteer and to help her with her fundraising drive for the trip, Rathcabbin Players staged an extra night recently of “Wild Goose Chase” and presented the proceeds which amounted to €2,100 to Fiona after the performance. North Tipperary Ploughing Championships.

The 50th Anniversary of North Tipperary Ploughing Championships will take place this year on the lands of Sean and Carmel Lambe and family. Redwood. The site is ideally situated beside the main Birr to Portumna Road at Ballincur Cross, known locally as the top of New Line. The event gets under way with a parade of the tractors and ploughs in the field starting at 11.30am. for a 12 noon start and a blessing of the site will take place at 1.00p.m. All are welcome to a great day out for all the family.

St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement.

Following our A.G.M. on February 4th we elected the following committee. Chairman: Eamon Mannion. Deputy Chairman: John Craig. Secretary: Nancy White. Assistant Secretary: Teresa Donoghue. Treasurer: Tom Dagg. Assistant Treasurer: Betty Houlihan. P.R.O.: Mary Darcy. Committee members: Gaye Needham, Marie O’Meara, Nora O’Hara, Betty Reddish. We would like to say a huge thank you to our outgoing chairman. Well done Tim and all his committee for all the hard work on our behalf.

Community/Lenten Walks

The Parish Pastoral Council/Liturgy Group organize community walks which will take place during the six weeks of Lent will continue on Sunday March 1st with Assembly outside Rathcabbin Church at 2.30pm. Everyone is welcome to come along and experience the benefits of getting together.

Redwood N.S Open Evening.

We are holding our open evening on Thursday, 12th March from 6 pm – 8 pm. It is a great opportunity for families to view the school, speak with the teachers and view the wide range of resources available to students. All are welcome, do come along! Our opening hours are changing from September 2015. The school will be open for pupils to arrive from 8.30 am in the morning with classes starting for all at 8.50 am. School will finish at 1.30pm for the infant classes and 2.30 pm for all other classes. ** Please Note** There is an optional afterschool pick-up service available to the school by a registered childcare facility. For up to date news on all activities happening in the school, please log on to our website www.redwoodns.ie

Lorrha Camogie Club.

Membership is now due for all players and should be paid Wednesday evening at underage and junior training. Prices are as follows: U-18: €20, Non-player:€30, Students:€40, Adult players:€60, Family(2 adults & 2 children):€90

Junior Camogie: Training continues Wednesday evening at 7.30 pm. A full turnout of the panel is required at this training ahead of our first league match this Sunday 1st March v Burgess in the Burgess grounds at 3pm. If any player cannot make training this Wednesday evening, you must contact trainer John Harding asap 086 6797103

U-16/U-14

Training continues Wednesday evenings at 6pm and Saturday mornings at 11am. New players welcome, a full turnout of players at all training sessions is essential.

Rathcabbin NS Parent Association with hold a fundraising table quiz in Kellys Rathcabbin on Friday 6th March. More details next week.

Spring  De-Clutter.

Thinking of clearing out the wardrobe to make room for the Spring collection? Lorrha Development/ Tidy Towns continue with unused clothes collection throughout the Spring  months. De-clutter your wardrobe, attack your attic, recycle all unwanted/unused items of clothing to make room for your Spring collection. We will accept any kind of bag or in bags provided by the committee. We can collect your unwanted items. Just call or text  (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (086) 8355405 with your name and details. We appreciate your support. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep two adults employed.

Courses.

Portumna College of Further Education commences its level 5 Healthcare Support course on Monday 2nd March at 10am. Horticulture Level 4 also on offer with continuous intake. New computer e-learning course starting soon. 090-9741946
