 LORRHA NOTES.

Late John Ryan.

The death occurred on Friday May 8th. at Milford Care Centre Limerick of John Ryan Ballymacegan Lorrha.
A native of Upperchurch John and his family took up residence in Lorrha some years back where he had a thriving dairy farm. A brilliant musician he was known throughout the County and beyond for his sessions in the pubs with his son Pio. A quietly spoken and inoffensive man he lived for his family his work and his music. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him but in particular by his family. Pre deceased by his brothers Fr. Tom (Kiltegan) and Dan Joe he is survived by his wife Marjorie daughter Noreen sons Donal and Pio sisters Sr. Patricia and Noreen brothers Patrick and Joseph daughter in-law sisters in-law brothers in-law nieces nephews relatives and friends to who sympathy is offered. His remains were removed from his residence on Sunday evening the 10th. to St. Ruadhan’s Church Lorrha and after funeral Mass on Monday burial took place in Upperchurch Cemetery. May he rest in peace.

Holy Communion.

Congratulations to the young people from the three schools in the parish who received the Sacrament of Holy Communion on Sunday last during 11.30 a.m. Mass in Rathcabbin Church.

May Devotions.

The Annual May Devotions to Our Lady of Clonfert continue at 8.00p.m.Sunday to Friday and Saturday’s at 7. p.m.

Theology Course.

A one year restricted entry – Diploma in applied Theology ( Pastoral Studies) course will begin on September 21st. 2009 in Our Lady’s School of Evangelization Knock. Further information can be had by contacting (094) 9388245 or (087) 2351294.

Bigger & Better.

Lorrha Development Association are holding their annual family fun day on Sunday June 7th. This year’s event will feature a dog show with a difference. There will be 10 classes with an agility competition. There will also be the popular duck race bonnie baby and toddler competition Test your knowledge quiz sheets Childrens Art competition childrens races and much more besides. Full details later. So mark the date in your diary Sunday June 7th.

Art Exhibition.

Portumna Library are hosting an exhibition of works by the students of “Bramble Art” until May 16th. The organiser is Ute Duggan. All are welcome.

Morning Courses.

Adult and Post Leaving Cert course will take place in Portumna Community School from September 2009 to May 2010. The course will include Care / Health Care Care Assistant/ classroom assistant. Features Fetac – Level 5 certification. Mornings only from 9.30 a.m to 1.30p.m. Applications welcome immediately and a full information evening will take place in early September. Family Cycle Day.

North Tipperary Sports Partnership are organizing a fun family cycle on Saturday May 16th. at 2.00p.m. to mark the launch of North Tipperary cycle routes. Bring your bike to Banba Square in Nenagh and cycle to Dromineer for a picnic lunch. Free Hi – Vis vests for the first 150 to sign up for cycle on the day. Bealtaine Festival In Lorrha.

Bealtaine is the May-time festival celebrating creativity in older people. St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement Association Lorrha are participating in this year’s celebrations to show that we are really ‘young at heart’ and that it is never too late to learn.
The following events will take place:
Sunday 31st May 2009 in Lorrha Community Hall from 10.30am to 5.00pm
There will be an Arts & Crafts Exhibition with a Cake Sale. Light Refreshments will be served and it’s open to the public so do please come and join us.
Also on Saturday 13th June 2009 there will be a Social Evening in Lorrha Community Hall from 9.00pm till late. Music will be provided by Richie Bourke and Pat Conlon. Light refreshments will be served.

Summer Camp.

Racing Invitation.

Limerick racecourse are celebrating with the GAA their 125 year celebration – and they ask you to join them at the races on Sunday 17th. May in Limerick racecourse in your GAA club or county colours and you will gain admittance for €5. The Limerick County final of the long puck will take place after the races. Suimhneas”.

North Tipperary cancer support centre “Suimhneas” is open in the Pastoral Centre Church Road Nenagh. This drop in centre will provide emotional support and practical help to people living with cancer and anyone affected by it. Opening times are Monday 10 – 2p.m. Tuesday 5p.m. -9p.m. and Wednesday to Friday 10a.m. to 2p.m. Phone (067) 73403.
