Lorrha Notes

World Title Comes To Lorrha.

Congratulations and best wishes is extended to Colm Corcoran Grange on securing a gold medal in the world skills competition in mechanics. The awards ceremony which took place in Canada recently yielded Gold for the young Lorrha man when he scored the highest ever achieved in mechanics a whopping 93 was a near perfect result from him. A student of Waterford Institute of Technology Colm is son of Barbara and Joe and is employed by Al Hayes Volkswagon dealers in Portumna. One of eleven young people who traveled to Calgary to compete in various trades and in search of gold silver and bronze all their tools were shipped over to the Canadian capital for the event. This is an enormous achievement for Colm who already has the much coveted EoroSkills gold medal which he picked up in Holland last year. Well done Colm.

Lord Mayor Launch.

Lorrha Development Association is about to undertake a Lord Mayor campaign to help raise funds to renovate and convert to a park the area to the rear of the two housing estates in the village which is presently overgrown and out of control. To be known as ‘Friars Park’ it will have a green area for children to play in safely and it will also have an area where people can walk or just sit and relax in. When complete the park will be a major benefit to everyone both parishioners and visitors who wish to use it. However the work will be costly and the Development Association are presently applying for funding from Leader towards the costs involved in converting this piece of waste ground into a pleasant park for all to enjoy.
