Tipperary footballers served up a massive performance against the well seasoned Mayo in the All-Ireland semi-final on Sunday Aug 21st with the final scoreline 2.13 to 0.14 in favoring Mayo. It’s 14 years since Tipp and Mayo last met in a round 4 Qualifier which Mayo won 0.21 to 1.14 which was held in Ennis. It’s 81 years since Tipp last reached an All-Ireland SFC semi-final. Tipp were beaten by Cavan, the eventual champions, by 1.7 to 0.8 in Croke Park. 13 years earlier , in 1922, was the last time Tipperary contested hurling and football All Ireland semi-finals at senior level in the same year.

Late Sarah Glynn.

The unexpected death occurred in Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe after a short illness on Tuesday 9th August of Sarah Glynn, Saint Brigid’s Road, Portumna. Nee Gardner, she was born in Redwood, Lorrha, the youngest of two girls, to John and Sarah and attended school locally. Sally went on to work in a shop in Portumna when she finished school and while there she met and married Patrick Glynn who pre-deceased her over twenty years ago. Sally was a hard working woman who farmed along with her husband in Gortnummera for many years before moving to Portumna before Patrick passed away.
She will be sadly missed by all who knew her but in particular by her family. Sympathy is extended to her sons P.J. (Portumna), Hubert (London), daughter Marie (Portumna), granddaughter Perpetual, great-granddaughter Alannah, sister Mary O’Meara (Redwood), nephew Val, (Redwood), relatives and friends on their great loss. After funeral Mass in Saint Brigid’s Church, Portumna on Saturday, August 13th, burial took place in Church Hill Cemetery. May she rest in peace.
