Lorrha Notes

Work commenced on the new park development in Lorrha village on Monday January 24th.

Lorrha Development Association are undertaking a major park development which is costing in the region of close on E100000 for the historical North Tipp. village and were recent recipients of part funding from North Tipperary LEADER Partnership under the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013. Rathcabbin Players are back on stage for a further three nights from Friday 28th. to Sunday 30th. with curtains up at 8.30p.m. sharp.  If you want to book a seat you had better hurry as seats are filling up stedily. Booking from (087) 2360096 between 5 and 10p.m. daily. BUT HURRY!!!

Recent Wedding.

The wedding took place on Saturday 4th December 2010 in St. Brendan’s Cathedral Loughrea Co Galway of Padraig Madden son of Bridget and of the late Paddy Grange Lorrha and Pamela Carty daughter of Sean & Mary Tullahill Loughrea Co Galway.
The bride was attended by her three sisters Maria Carty Crowe chief bridesmaid and Deirdre and Shona Carty as her two bridesmaids.
The Bestman was Tom Madden brother of the groom and friends Michael Dermody & Enda Moran were groomsmen.
The celebrant for the occasion was Fr. Sean Egan St Brendan’s Cathedral Loughrea while the Church music was provided by Ciaran Cannon Loughrea.
Both the grooms mother Bridget and the brides mother Mary brought offertory gifts to the altar. The first reading was read by the grooms sister Mary Ryan Loughmore and the second reading was read by friend Noel Nevin.
Afterwards the newly weds joined their families and friends for their reception which was held in the Lady Gregory Hotel Gort where Country singer Louise Morrissey and her showband entertained guests before Padraig and Pamela departing on their honeymoon which they spent in Miami an Eastern Carribbean Cruise and finished up by spending 4 nights in New York arriving home to Ireland on Christmas Eve. Many congratulations is extended to Padraig and Pamela and in welcoming Pamela to the parish we hope you both have a long and happy life together in Grange.

Recent Engagements.

Three couples announced their respective engagements which took place over the Christmas time and the New Year. Congratulations is extended to Giolla Kennedy and Keith Naylor Jack Maher and Michelle Moran and Jessica Kennedy and Brendan O’Meara. Well done to all couples and we extend the best of luck to you all in the future.

50th. Wedding Anniversary.

Congratulations and best wishes is extended to Pat and Ann Reddin Cullagh Rathcabbin on the occasion of their 50th. wedding anniversary.
Pat and Ann celebrated the occasion with their family recently. Well done to you both and good health and happiness for the future.

New Arrival.

Congratulations is extended to Michelle and Shane Smyth Killeen Rathcabbin on the birth of their daughter last week-end. A sister for Katylin. Well done to all and many good wishes for the future.

New Development.

Lorrha Development Association are delighted to announce that in recent weeks part funding has been received from Tipperary LEADER partnership to support the funds already raised by the three Lord Mayor Candidates Joe Dolan Theresa Dunne Walker and David Power towards the development of the new park in the village which is to be known as Friar’s Park. Work commenced on the development of the park on Monday last 24th. The park when finished is not only for the benefit of the visitors to the village but for everyone in the parish and neighboring parishes as without your support and financial contributions when the fundraising took place last year this major undertaking could never be a reality.

Reminder.

A reminder that the Lorrha parish calendar is still on sale throughout the parish and beyond. Proceeds go towards the upkeep of Lorrha village like planting flowers paint brushes etc. Don’t forget to pick up your copy while they are still available. EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR UNEMPLOYED ADULTS.

NORTH TIPPERARY VEC will be holding an INFORMATION EVENING on WEDNESDAY 2ND FEBRUARY from 3.00pm to 8.00pm at the ABBEY COURT HOTEL NENAGH. Staff from the VEC’s Adult Education Department will be there to talk to you on the evening. Contact 067 31845 for further details.

Keane classic “The Year of the Hiker” then you can catch this powerful performance this coming week-end the 28th. to 30th. incl. in Rathcabbin Hall. Turf Cutting Rally.

The future of turf cutting in Ireland is under serious threat as the Government continue to close down bogs all over Ireland. As the election draws near the Turf cutters and Contractors Association are holding a rally on Sunday January 30th. at 3.00p.m. in The Hodson Bay Hotel Athlone.
It is important that every effort is put in place to secure the right to cut turf in the future and now with a General Election about to take place in just weeks this is the time to apply the pressure. This group is appealing to everyone who is interested in keeping our bogs open for future turf cutting both owners and contractors to be at this rally on Sunday and to show your support for this very important issue.

Camogie Club.

Registration for Intermediates and under 18’s in the Clubhouse on Friday 28th. January at 7.00p.m. Registration for all juveniles including under 16 14 12 and 10 will take place on Friday 4th. February in Lorrha Hall at 8.00p.m. after indoor hurling.

St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement Association.

The Tea/Coffee Afternoon in aid of North Tipperary Hospice which was postponed due to the inclement weather in December has now been re-arranged for Wednesday 9th February 2011 from 2.30pm to 4.30pm in St. Ruadhan’s Community Hall Lorrha. This is an excellent cause so please do call in for a cuppa and a chat.
