Portumna Retirement Village recently sponsored a competition for local National School students entitled ‘Appreciating the Eldery in our Community’. Scoil Lua Naofa Lorrha featured very well and took away six awards from the competition. Clodagh McIntyre (4th. Class) was an overall winner while Certificates of Merit and a trophy was won by George Harding (6th. Class) Hannah O’Meara Tom Duggan (2nd. Class) Caoimhe O’Meara (1st. class) Lisa Duggan (Senior Infants). 

                                                                                                                              

Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to the relatives of Mary Ellen Russell Eyrecourt and late of Rathcabbin who was buried in Bonaham Cemetery on Wednesday February 16th. May she rest in peace.

Eucharistic Congress.

The 50th. International Eucharistic Congress takes place in Dublin from 10th. To 17th. June 2012 the theme of which is The Eucharist. To prepare ourselves spiritually and physically for this wonderful occasion a presentation given by Collete Furlong ( pastoral Development Officer with International Eucharistic Congress) will take place on Friday 25th. February in St. Mary’s Church Nenagh at 7.30p.m. You are all invited to attend this presentation as we journey to the Congress. Refreshments will be served afterwards.

North Tipp Ploughing.

The North Tipperary Ploughing Association will hold their Annual Ploughing Match at Fortmoy Aglish Borrisokane on Sunday 6th March by kind permission. All classes will be catered for. It is promised to be a fun family day. There are raffle tickets on sale which can be purchsed from any member of the comittee and will be available on the day. The draw will take place in Hough’s Pub Aglish on Sunday night with music by ‘Footloose’. Lorrha Apostolic Work Society will hold their Annual Display on Sunday March 20th. More details later.

Cancer Fundraiser.

A fundraiser for the Irish Cancer Society will take place in Maher’s of Lorrha at 9’o clock. Shaving of heads on the night also waxing of legs and chest if anybody wants to volunteer contact Juliet on 0877779639. All welcome on the night music and funit’s for a great night.

Application forms are now available for new entrants to Scoil Lua Naofa. Lorrha for the coming year 2011/12.
The Enrolment Application Form can be obtained in person or by calling the school at (090) 9747295. Please return completed forms by March 11th.

Open Day Reminder.

Scoil Lua Naofa Lorrha invite Parents / Guardians to our open day on Friday March 4th. from 1p.m. to 3p.m.

Lorrha & Dorrha GAA Photo Gallery

Further to the ongoing development of the new Lorrha & Dorrha clubhouse facilities the committee are looking at setting up of photo gallery of current and past Lorrha teams and Lorrha players who played with Tipperary over the years. We ask that anyone who would have photos in their family photo albums relating to above would wish to share with the club. The club will make a copy of your submitted photo and return original to you. Pilgrimage.

The 55th. Diocesan Pilgrimage to ourdes will leave Shannon on Sunday June 26th. returning on Friday July 1st. The cost this year is E660 pps. Booking forms are available from CARA/Joe Walsh Tours 143 Lower Baggot St. Dublin 2 or call (01) 2410810. A limited number of sick pilgrims will be accommodated in the Sanctuary of Lourdes at a cost of E550. Application forms for sick pilgrims only to Fr. Angling Club News.

Lorrha/Rathcabbin Angling club will hold their A.G.M.on Friday March 4th. At 9p.m. in Mahers shed. New members welcome.

Support Group.

Rainbows is a peer support group for young people aged between 6 and 18 years who have experienced bereavement due to death of a family member or through parental separation. A group will be commencing shortly in Borrisokane Community College. For further details contact Breda Lillis Deane at (067) 27268.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

St. Patricks Day Parade in Portumna this year will take place at 12.30 assembly in the mart commencement of parade will be at 1pm. Registration forms available in the Post Office on Patrick St. It is guaranteed to be a good parade all round.

Country Market.

Portumna Country Market will have a tea/coffee corner and tasting day at the market on Friday 25th. And thereafter on the First Friday of each month for E2. Proceeds will be for Cancer Care West.
