News from Lorrha School.

As we get closer to the summer holidays, we are very busy as usual with school happenings.
Our school tour to Bay Sports recently was a massive success and went down wonderful with all age groups. Pupils returned home very tired but also very happy with some taking a little snooze on the bus on the way back.
We also took another adventure with a trip to Friars Lough for a biodiversity project with local ecologists Ann Marie Mahon and Eileen Ronayne. The children had a great day exploring the wetlands and the freshwater invertebrates that could be found. A nice little surprise from Leslie and Rose then appeared in the form of ice cream for the children and tea and scones for the adults. It all went down a treat. Many thanks to Leslie, Rose, Ann Marie and Eileen.
All are invited to the retirement mass –end of year mass- for Pauline and Martina, on Monday next June 17th at 11.30am in St. Ruadhan’s church.

Enrolling:  We continue with enrolling pupils for the 2024/25 school year. Application forms are available from the school, from the website or message the facebook page. You can also call the school on (090) 9747295 or email luanaofa@gmail.com. Appointments can also be made to view the school and see what’s on offer or to talk to a teacher by calling the school or sending an email. We look forward to hearing from you.
Battery Collection: We continue to collect used batteries in association with WEEE Ireland, Battery Recycling. By taking part, we are helping to tackle climate change, protecting the environment and supporting the children, families and staff at Laura Lynn, Irelands Children Hospice. Used batteries, can be left into the school.

LorrhaDorrha Community Games.

Lorrha was well and truly represented at the county track and field day event both in Fethard and Clonmel on the 1st and 3rd of June. There were children from all over the county and competition was to a very high standard. Lorrha had 20 children competing in different events over the weekend. They had six medal winners with five now going forward to either the Regional’s in Clonmel or the Nationals in Carlow in August. Big congratulations to the medal winners, Shane Moran, Patrick Kennedy, Lexie Pyke, Lexi Delaney, Leah Delaney and Jamie Hogan. We would like to wish them the very best of luck and we know they will do Lorrha very proud.

Well Done.

Well done to Clodagh McIntyre and Celine Guinan and the Tipperary senior camogie squad on their win over Antrim at home on Saturday last. Final score Tipp 1.17 – Antrim 0.6. Tipperary who are topping their group, take a break next week-end.

Lorrha Development Association:

LDA committee has submitted its application for this year’s Supervalu TidyTowns competition and we can expect the village to be judged any day from now on.  We acknowledge the work that has been done by both individuals and groups to tidy up and enhance specific areas of the village and we would very much appreciate if further time and effort was invested in having the village look as well as possible, especially over the summer months. The fact that we have now no Employment Scheme worker available to us makes this all the more important. Many public areas of the village would benefit from a bit of attention.
