The AGM brought changes all around with a new NPA Assistant MD James Sutton from Dublin and  Vice Chairman is Patsy Condron from Laois. Anger Building in Rathcabbin.

Anger and frustration has been building for the last week in Rathcabbin, when local residents and the surrounding areas discovered that St. Kieran’s Nursing Home at the Pike maybe now used to house IPAS (International Protection Asylum Seekers).
Some time ago they were lead to believe that the facility was to be used to house Ukrainian mothers with their sick or disabled children but that is not happening now.
The local residents and residents in the surrounding areas are very concerned to learn via a phone call that a substantial number of IPAS may be housed there subject to a licence being granted.

The nursing home is wholly unsuitable for many reasons, there are absolutely no recreational facilities, the local village is 2km away and the only shop in it closed down a few weeks ago. The closest town is 10km away.

The former nursing home is situated very close to a very busy main road and crossroads. The road to the village is very narrow with extremely dangerous bends.

It is very unfair to house people in such isolated areas. It is also very worrying for the local and surrounding residents that there is very little information known on these people. There are also a number of young children living in the vicinity of  and in the surrounding areas of  the former nursing home. The Rathcabbin  people have been very disappointed with the local representatives so far, they feel that the local politicians need to stand with them in letting the Government know that housing IPAS in such isolated areas is wrong on all levels.
