Championships Postponed Indefinitely.

The heavy persistent rain over the last few weeks have played havoc with the North Tipperary ploughing championships. Underfoot conditions is far from good resulting in the postponement of the ploughing championships indefinitely.  As soon as the weather and the ground clears up, the ploughing will take place. In the meantime follow us on facebook North Tipperary Ploughing, on Instagram north _tipp_ploughing and twitter Ntippploughing to keep up to date with progress.
Tickets are on sale at €5 each and can be purchased from any member of the committee and they will also be on sale on the day of the ploughing. There are cash prizes on offer as well as 2 x 1 day passes to the National Ploughing event next September. The draw will take place on Saturday night March 30th  in the Village Inn, Aglish and all are welcome to attend. Membership is due and can be paid at any meeting.

Sean Keane in Concert.

Scéal Community Group Lorrha are organising a fundraising concert with singer and musician Seán Keane. The event takes place in Rathcabbin Hall (R42Y 188) on Saturday 13th April at 8pm. Tickets at €30 are available from Patrick on (087) 6962490 or from Nancy on (087) 7613 458 or from the shop in Lorrha.

 

News from Lorrha School

As we near the end of term two it continues to be very busy as usual.
Well done to our students who completed the cycle safe course which took place in the school recently. Our thanks to Richard and his crew.

Soccer:  Congratulations to the seniors who participated in the FAI 5-a-side soccer blitz recently. The competition took place in Ballymackey and we offer our thanks to the organisers.

Camogie Visit:  Many thanks to the camogie girls who visited our school recently to show off the silverware which they won. It was great to welcome back some of our past students too. All in Scoil Lua Naofa wish the girls the best of luck in ’24 and we extend those good wishes to our past student Clodagh McIntyre who is part of the Tipperary Senior camogie set up.
Another past student is Patrick ‘Bonar’ Maher and we wish Patrick and the Tipperary Senior hurling squad all the best in ’24.

Medal Winners:  Well done to our medal winners last week in the Art and Handwriting competition which was organised by the Lorrha Community Games committee. Many thanks to the organisers.

“School of Rock”.  We were invited to the Borrisokane Community School TY production for 2024 of the musical “School of Rock” on Wednesday last. Our students had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the performance. Well done to all involved in such a big undertaking and thank you all for including us in the invitation list.

The newly formed Parents Association of Lorrha NS are having a fundraising Easter hamper raffle. Tickets are €2 per line, 3 lines for €5 and are on sale from the Sceal Shop in Lorrha Village. All proceeds go towards the school.

New Web Site:  We are in the process of creating a new school website which carries school happenings and where application forms for new students can be downloaded. Do please visit the website on www.lorrhans.weebly.com. We can also be found on school Instagram, Facebook and Twitter pages at ‘Scoil Lua Naofa-Lorrha National School’ which are updated regularly.

Enrolling:  We are are enrolling pupils for the 2024/25 school year. Application forms are available from the school, from the website or message the facebook page. You can also call the school on (090) 9747295 or email luanaofa@gmail.com. Appointments can also be made to view the school and see what’s on offer or to talk to a teacher by calling the school or sending an email. We look forward to hearing from you.

Battery Collection:   We continue to collect used batteries in association with WEEE Ireland, Battery Recycling. By taking part, we are helping to tackle climate change, protecting the environment and supporting the children, families and staff at LauraLynn, Irelands Children Hospice. Used batteries, can be left into the school. Don’t forget that we also continue to collect your used postage stamps which we forward to the clergy for Missionary work.

Well Done.

Well done to the Lorrha senior hurling squad and management who got their season off to a great start on Sunday last with a five point victory over Roscrea in the first round of the league. Final score: Lorrha 0.21 – Roscrea 1.13. The lads take on Loughmore-Castleiney in two weeks time and we wish them well on home turf.

Pilgrimage.

Maria is organising a trip to Madjorge from 28th August for seven nights. The spiritual director is Fr. Tom Hannon. The house where pilgrims will be staying is only five minutes walking distance from the church. For more information contact Maria on (087) 2826088.

GAA News.

There was No Winner of this weeks lotto jackpot of €4,400. The numbers drawn on 18 March were: 11-17-18-32.  1 Match 3: Louise Mannion wins €100.  Promoters: Mark Kennedy, Madeleine Maher, Mulrooney’s Gala.  Next Monday’s jackpot is €4,500 with Team 4 in charge of the draw. Thank you for your continued support.

County Hurling League: Well done to the senior hurlers on their 0-21 to 1-13 win over Roscrea on Sunday in the first round of the County Hurling League Division 1. The lads are out again in a fortnight’s time at home to Loughmore-Castleiney.

Social dancing: Continues in the clubhouse next Friday at 9.30pm in the Tony Reddin Centre to the music of Declan Aungier.
