Final Reminder.

There is still time to book your seat for Rathcabbin Players 3 act  Sam Cree comedy ‘Don’t tell the Wife’ which will be staged in Rathcabbin Hall from Thursday night February 1st. to Sunday night 4th incl. The doors will open at 7.15pm with curtains up at 8pm sharp. The booking line is open daily between 6.30pm and 8.00pm.on (087) 216 4511 but hurry, seats are filling up fast.

Novice Ploughing Match.

A Novice Ploughing match will be held on Saturday March 2nd . Any male and female between the age of 17 and 35 who would like to participate is requested to call the secretary Denis Cahalan on (087) 779 3719 for further information on this event. Late Mary Jo Kennedy – Cochrane.

Sympathy is extended to Jacqueline McGrath and family, Lorrha on the death of her aunt Mary Jo Kennedy – Cochrane,  Belfast, Antrim  and late of Lorrha.
Mary Jo passed away peacefully on 22nd January surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife of the late Bobby.  As well as her niece Jacqueline and her family, Mary Jo was loving mother to Robert, Joan, Ruaírdhí and Mary. She is sadly missed by her grandchildren Aimee, Cameron, Rory, Ryan and Charlie, daughter- in- law Margaret, extended family, friends and neighbours to whom sympathy is extended. Predeceased by her sisters Kathleen and Mary.
After funeral Mass in St Thérèse of Lisieux Church, Belfast on Wednesday 24th.  her remains were taken home to St Ruadhán’s Church in Lorrha for burial  in the adjoining graveyard following funeral rites on Thursday, 25th January, last in St. Ruadhan’s Church. May her soul rest in peace.

Late Michael (Mick) Gleeson.

The peaceful death took place on Friday 26th January of Michael (Mick) Gleeson. Charleville, Cork and late of Killeen, Rathcabbin.
Mick passed away in Marymount University Hospital and Hospice, Cork in the presence of his loving wife and family. He was loving husband of Teresa (née Quinlan), much loved father of Austin, Stephanie and cherished grandfather of Cian and Liadain. Dear brother of Tom, Jim, Mary (O’Reilly), Joan (Perella) and the late Jack.
Deeply regretted by his loving wife, family, daughter-in-law Mariel, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, kind neighbours and friends to whom sympathy is extended. Funeral took place privately. May his soul rest in peace.

Late Pat Kennedy.

The death took place in London recently of Pat Kennedy.  A native of Lordspark, Rathcabbin, Pat who was in his 79th year, passed away after a very brief illness. One of seven children born to Una and Christy,  Pat left Ireland as a young man back in the 1960’ and settled in London. In his younger years, he was a frequent visitor back home visiting his family and relatives. Pre-deceased by his parents and by his brother Willie, Pat is survived by his sister Mary (England), brothers Anthony (Wicklow), Jim (Borrisokane), John (London), Dan (Motefield – Lorrha), sisters in-law, brother in-law, nieces, nephews, friends, relations and neighbours to whom sympathy is extended. Burial will take place in London on Monday February 12th. Mass will be celebrated in Rathcabbin Church for the repose of his soul, at a later date. May his soul rest in peace.

Redwood NS.

Redwood NS Grandparents Day: Grandparents Day will be held in Redwood School this Thursday 1st February at 12:00. All are welcome to come along and join us for a chat and cup of tea.

Redwood NS Open Evening: Our Open Evening will be held on Tuesday 13th February from 7.00-8.30pm for parents and children hoping to enrol for the 2024/25 school year. It is an ideal opportunity to meet the staff and to view the wide range of facilities and resources on offer in Redwood. All are welcome to attend.

First Confessions: First Confessions for the children of Lorrha, Rathcabbin and Redwood will be held in Redwood Church on Thursday 22nd February at 7pm (Please note: Change of original date)

Community Text Alert Forms.

Forms for parishioners to fill up if they are interested in joining the Lorrha & Dorrha Community Text Alert system is now available in the shops in the parish. Anyone filling a form and leaving the registration fee of €20 is to contact Cllr. Michael O’Meara on  (086) 8379300, Declan O’Meara (087) 2609314 or Catty Burke (087) 9300982.

Church News.

 Friday next, 2nd February, is the First Friday of the month. Mass will be celebrated in Lorrha Church at 7.30pm.

Saturday 3rd February is the Feast of Saint Blaise.

Bishop Fintan Will celebrate one of the Masses in each parish in our Pastoral Area next Weekend. The following weekend each parish will have one lay – led community liturgy as we have only one priest available.

Lourdes Novena:

A novena in preparation for the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes and World Day of Prayer for the Sick will take place in the Cathedral Ennis from Saturday 3rd Feb to Sunday 11th Feb. Weekdays at 7.30pm, Saturday 11am and Sunday 11.30am. The Novena can be viewed online on the Ennis Cathedral webcam.

Pilgrimage.

Now is the time to book an Easter Pilgrimage to Medjorge which takes place from Easter Monday April 1st. for one week. Fly from Knock Airport. For further details contact Paul on (087) 837 5407.

Enhancement Programme.

The Local Enhancement Programme 2024 capital fund will support groups, particularly in disadvantaged areas, to carry out necessary repairs and improvements their facilities, purchase equipment such as tables and chairs, tools and signage, laptops and printers, lawnmowers, canopies and training equipment etc.

This funding will help communities, community groups and committees, allowing them to continue to provide valuable services to the people in their area, and in the process strengthen the bonds that tie communities together. The fund also aims to support local strategic priorities through linkages with Local Economic Community Plans (LECPs).

The fund also includes ring fenced funding for Women’s Groups i.e. community projects and groups that support the ethos of women’s sheds and other such groups or projects aimed at providing social networks for women.

The Local Enhancement Programme 2024 is funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development. GAA News

There was No Winner of this weeks lotto jackpot of €3,600 The numbers drawn on 29 January were: 15-17-18-21.  1 Match 3: Theresa Kennedy wins €100.  Promoters: Eamonn Maher, Mulrooney’s Gala, Internet.
Next Monday’s jackpot is €3,700 with Team 5 in charge of the draw. Thank you for your continued support.

Juvenile Presentation: A great night was had at our juvenile GAA and camogie medal presentation at the Tony Reddin Centre recently. Thanks to special guest Jake Morris for coming to present the medals, and for sharing some words of wisdom with our young players.

Membership: Is now due. It must be paid before participating in any training or game. €40 for juvenile & non-playing members; €60 for student with gym membership; €100 for adult with gym membership. Membership can be paid on Clubforce, where you can also sign up for the lotto at a reduced rate.

Social Dancing: Continues in the Tony Reddin Centre next Friday night from 9.30pm to the music of Joe Cleary.
