Recently Baptised.

Congratulations is extended to Saoirse Bowen, daughter of Grainne Molloy, Portland and her husband John Bowen who was baptised recently in Lorrha Church. Well done all.

Charity Golf Outing.

A fundraising golf outing took place on Friday 29th December at Birr Golf Club at which a sum in excess of €1100 was raised. All proceeds from the event goes to the MSF Gaza Fund. This was due to the help and generosity of the following : All the players who took part on the day and contributed very generously. Birr Golf Club, Liffey Mills Banagher, Norbert Brady Fireplaces, O’Hara Electrical and Solar, Rags Golf Society, Lorrha Parish Golf, Des&Antoinette Haugh, Ena & Paschal Moran, Ronan King, Alan O Meara, Michael Brophy, Mike Molloy, Aoife Brady, Tony Coen, Mick Liffey, Kathleen Lynskey, Martin Young, Kieran Horan, John Cleary, Brian Guinan, Michael Coughlan. Finally well done to Kevin Hough and Patrick Maher who were joint winners on the day.

Athletics training for Juveniles: 

Athletic training will start on Jan 12th in Moatfield for all players (hurling & camogie) age 10 to 17 for 6 weeks with running coach Amanda O’Farrell, Borrisokane, to help players develop their agility and speed. Thanks to Breda O’Meara Pharmacy for sponsoring this free initiative for our boys and girls.

Late Gerard Flannery.

The death took place on Monday 1st January 2024 of Gerard Flannery, Beechwood Park, Nenagh and Kilregane, Lorrha.
Predeceased by his father Noel, Gerard is deeply regretted by his mother Catherine, sister Elaine, aunt Maisie Mahon, cousins, relatives and friends to whom sympathy is offered. After funeral Mass in St. Ruadhan’s Church, Lorrha on Thursday Jan. 4th.  burial took place in the adjoining cemetery. May he rest in peace.

 Site Required.

 North Tipperary Ploughing are presently looking for a suitable site to stage the 2024 championships which take place in March. If you think you might have a suitable venue please call the secretary Denis Cahalan on (087) 779 3719.

 Weekend Masses in Our Parish  are in Lorrha 6.30pm Saturday evenings  and Rathcabbin 11.30am Sunday Mornings Weekday Masses: Lorrha 9.30am Monday Mornings (except bank holidays)
A letter received from Fr. Brian Johnson, OSF thanking the parishes in the Diocese sincerely for the Mission Awareness appeal last year and the welcome and hospitality he received. Total collection came to €74, 464.00 and for that generosity they are most grateful.

Christmas tree Recycling.

Christmas Trees can be dropped off Free of Charge for recycling until Saturday 13th January at the following locations during normal opening hours – 08.30- 15.30 at Nenagh Recycling Centre, Nenagh, Roscrea Recycling Centre, Roscrea.

Final Reminder.

It’s not too late to get your tickets for the Lorrha GAA dinner dance which takes place on Saturday night coming January 13th in the County Arms Hotel, Birr. The North & County premier intermediate hurling championship winning team will be presented with their medals on the night. A band and DJ will play. Tickets, €50, are on sale throughout the parish or by contacting secretary Maureen Guinan 0872426965 and if you wish there is the option available of paying on Revolut.

Exhibition.

A photograph exhibition to celebrate some of the talented residents of Rathcabbin, Lorrha and Lusmagh was launched in Kelly’s Rathcabbin on Thursday 28th December 2023. This exhibition, entitled Lámha Beo, was photographed by Georgina Chambers and Robert Revill, members of Birr Photography Group,  and consists of portraits of 12 local people with additional photographs of them in action. This talented  group include no less than 3 All Ireland champions and a gold medallist at the Chelsea Flower Show!   On view is Aubrey Claffey – sculptor, Ute Duggan – artist, Celine Guinan – camogie player, Mary Hanrahan – brown bread maker, Richard Haslam – florist and gardener,  William Holmes – musician, Pamela Kennedy – hair stylist, Sean Lambe – vintage tractor enthusiast, Barry Noyce – basket  weaver, Mary O’ Brien – knitter, Sakie O’ Brien – loy digger and Michael O’ Meara – bee-keeper. A great night was had by all at the launch with music by Reuben and Jacob Noyce, Denis Duffy and Tom Holmes. The exhibition, funded by the Heritage Council through Tipperary County Council,  will remain in Kelly’s R42FN36 in the coming weeks and all are welcome. There is a memento booklet and donations can be made to Enable Ireland.

GAA News.

There was No Winner of this weeks lotto jackpot of €3,400. The numbers drawn on 8 January were: 7-10-13-28.  1 Match 3: Niamh Moran wins €100.  Promoters: Kathleen Gleeson, John McLeish, Kevin Molloy.
Next Monday’s jackpot is €3,500 with Team 2 in charge of the draw. Thank you for your continued support.

Dinner Dance: Tickets are still available for our Dinner Dance, which takes place this Saturday, January 13th in the County Arms Hotel, Birr. Our Premier Intermediate team gave us many great days out last year, and this is the chance for our supporters to acknowledge their achievements.

Strength & Conditioning for juveniles: In the coming weeks we will also be engaging the expertise of Lorrha man Conor Sullivan to help our juvenile players with strength and conditioning for the coming year, details to follow.

Juvenile Medal Presentation: Lorrha U13 and Lorrha Rovers U15 medal presentation will take place on Saturday, January 20th in the Tony Reddin Centre, Moatfield, at 7.30pm with special guests Lorrha Premier Intermediate Captain Michael Dolan and Tipperary Senior Hurling star Jake Morris. All are welcome to celebrate the boy’s achievements, have a chat, a refreshment and a photo with their fine silverware.
