Another School Year.

The three schools in the parish will re-open their doors this week. We welcome back students, teachers, staff and Boards of Management to a new year of Education.

Another Impressive Win.

Many congratulations are extended to Suzanne Corcoran, Lorrha on her recent golf victory in Powerscourt. The four times Irish Senior Women’s Amateur Close Champion, claimed the Irish Senior Women’s Amateur Open title to add to her already impressive list of victories. Suzanne, who plays her golf in Portumna, claimed the Connacht Women’s Amateur Open back in June, and while she has come close to the senior title many times in the last number of years, she kept her good form for the pitch she loves playing on in Powerscourt and was obviously thrilled to get over the line this time. Goes to show, never give up! Well done Suzanne.

Sympathy.
Sympathy is extended to the family of Joe Whelan, Castledermot, & France, nephew of Pat Hough (Redwood) and Chrissie Dooley (Kinnitty), and to the family of Bridie Burke nee Molloy, England, sister of the late Tony who died recently. May they rest in peace

Gratitude.

On behalf of my family and myself, this correspondent for Lorrha would like to extend a sincere “Thank You” to everyone who has supported us in so many ways, on the recent sad passing of my much loved cherished sister Ann. To all who attended her removal in Clonmel, funeral Mass and burial in Cloghan and to all who sent Mass cards, offered condolences in person and on line, thank you. This support has meant a lot to me and my family and my extended family, in those very difficult times.  Rose Mannion.

Despite missing several players through injury. It’s well done to the Lorrha Premier Intermediate squad and their backroom team who had a three point win over Portroe on Sunday last in their final group match. The squad are now through to the knock out stages of the competition. Final score, Lorrha 1.23 – Portroe 2.17.

Camogie News.

U11s

Our U11 girls had their first competitive match v a strong Ballina team, and it was great to see them work so hard for each on the pitch, despite a defeat it was a very positive performance and they are great prospects for the future. Next match is v Portroe away Thursday evening at 7 pm.

U13s. This team continued their unbeaten run with a win over Portroe last week, their next group game is Wednesday away to Burgess at 7PM.

U16C Championship. We were successful in topping our group and are now through to a semi-final, with more details to follow. Every girl deserves great praise for her work rate throughout the group games , there were some very solid performances. Best wishes to the girls who are now part of the JNR A panel who are competing in their first adult championship.

Junior A

The girls put in a huge performance in their first championship match versus Kildangan, in Puckane at the weekend .  Leading at half time by 2 points with some great scores taken and strong defensive work , the second half was all to play for. A goal by Clodagh McIntyre midway through the second half put Lorrha  in a strong position and they battle hard to withstand the late Kiladangan attack to come away with a draw. Final score Lorrha 1.9 – Kildangan 0.12. Next game is at home v Templemore Saturday evening 2nd Sept, time TBC .
A big thank you to Michael Monagle Limited for providing a new set of jerseys for the adult team
