Lorrha Notes

The weather couldn’t be better on Sunday last for the over 40 competitors who came to the Ballingarry site for the North Tipp ploughing championships. Photo by Rose Mannion.

As the day progressed, spectators flocked to the field to view some of the finest ploughmen and women in action and they weren’t disappointed either. Families came to support their family member who was participating, some for the first time,  and for everyone it was a spectacular sight. Even two competitors, one from Westmeath and one from Kildare brought along their horses and plough, something that hasn’t happened in North Tipp ploughing for a number of years.
On Saturday, five young people competed in the novice class, Rob Duffy, Lee Hogan, Rory Spain, Claire Kelly and Cathal Tigh. The eventual winner was Rob Duffy who just pipped Lee Hogan by one point.
The committee wish to thank the landowner Joe Murphy for the site, the participants, some who travelled long distances, the spectators who turned out in big numbers and all who helped in whatever way to make the day the success that it was. A very special thanks to all sponsors for their continued support of the ploughing championships in North Tipperary.
