Lorrha Notes

Well done to all who were involved in the Lorrha GAA club dinner dance and medal presentation to the North and County Intermediate Hurling champions held on December 22nd. A lot of work and organizing goes on behind the scenes and it was obvious that great time and attention was invested to this night. It was a great night with plenty of Christmas cheer and it was wonderful to see so many young people attending too, some for the very first time enjoying the event and impressed by the occasion, which they all enjoyed. It was a lovely lead in to the seasons festivities. A selection of photographs can be viewed in the local papers this week

Late Kathleen (Kit) Ryan.

The peaceful death took place on Friday December 16th 2022 of Kathleen Ryan, Lorrha Village. Kit, as she was known to all, passed away peacefully in the loving care of the staff of Portumna Retirement Village where she had spent the last twelve years of her life.
Nee Kennedy, Kit was born and raised in Lorrha eighty eight years ago and resided in the village all her life. She had a easy way about her and enjoyed the company of her neighbours and friends, with everyone  welcome to her kitchen and to a cup of tea and a chat. A dedicated wife, daughter and mother, Kit showed a huge commitment and loyalty to looking after and caring for her parents in their final years. She also showed that same commitment in taking great care of her ailing husband Dinny who pre-deceased her in 2012. A woman of strong faith, Kit was very proud of being Sacristan of St. Ruadhan’s Church for 24 years, a job she cherished while in good health.
Predeceased by her loving husband Dinny, Kit will be sadly missed by her daughter Jacqueline (McGrath), son-in-law Philip, grandchildren Lochlann, Ceri and Zoe, sister Mary Jo (Belfast), nieces, nephews, relatives, extended family, neighbours and friends to whom sympathy is offered.
After funeral Mass in St. Ruadhan’s Church Lorrha on Monday 19th Kit was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

More Success Announced.

Well done to the Lorrha Scéal committee led by the hard working chairman Patrick Cahalan, who have secured a grant of €239,000 under the Town and Village Renewal scheme. This money will be used in the building of a new interpretive centre and work is expected to start very shortly. A great addition to the village.

Gratitude.

A massive thank you from SVP Society in Birr to the people of Rathcabbin and Lorrha who contributed €1185 in the recent Church Gate collection.

Hard Luck.
Commiserations to the Lorrha Rovers U21 team who were beaten by Burgess 2.10 to 4.9 in the North Tipp final held on a bitterly cold St. Stephen’s Day. Lorrha Rovers made a great come back in the second half but they left it too late in the play to force a draw or pull clear. Hard luck lads.
