Late Eileen Duffy.

The peaceful death took place at her home on Tuesday 29th November of Eileen Duffy, Graigue, Rathcabbin in the loving care of her family.
Nee Robinson, Eileen was born and raised in Roscomroe 88 years ago. On her marriage to her late husband John in 1963 they lived for some time in Lordapark and Carrig before moving to Graigue.

Eileen worked hard alongside her husband  and indeed she could turn her hand to any task, whether it be inside the house or outside in the fields. She had a very positive outlook on life, was a determined individual who once she had her mind made up, continued with the job at hand. She was a loving and caring family woman and she loved to talk about her grandchildren taking great interest in their lives.

Eileen and John were two of the original founders of Rathcabbin Ploughing back in 1965. While John turned the scrape with his horse drawn plough, Eileen organized the ladies committee to serve tea, soup and sandwiches in the fields of North Tipp wherever the championships were held. It was no bother to Eileen to light a fire in the open air to boil up the kettle or heat up a pot of soup she had made the night before, for the ploughmen. In later years the ladies served refreshments from a cattle trailer before moving into the more sheltered accommodation – a tent which came in recent years. Eileen made sure she had enough food for everyone and no one went without. She showed a huge commitment and loyalty to the ploughing making herself available at the drop of a hat. She was elected President of the committee a long number of years ago, a role she took seriously indeed and was very involved in decision making as well on the committee. Eileen served her last meals with the ploughing last March at the annual championships even though her health was declining.
She was also involved with Rathcabbin Players for a number of years and could be found dishing up the refreshments behind the scenes when the play finished. No matter what she was involved in, she gave freely of her time and energy.
Eileen will be sadly missed from the ploughing scene and from the community but especially more so by her family. Deeply regretted by her beloved son Tom, daughter Gabrielle, daughter in law Martina her much cherished grand children Alaina, Shauna, Adam, Rob and Darragh. brother-in-law Tommy Duffy and sister- in-law Ann Ryan her nieces, nephews, relatives and friends to whom sympathy is offered.
After funeral Mass in Our Lady Queen of Ireland Church Rathcabbin, Eileen’s remains arrived into Lorrha cemetery for burial where it was met with a guard of honour provided by the members of the North Tipperary ploughing.  May Eileen she rest in peace.

Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to Frances Kelly and family, Rathcabbin on the death of her brother Vincent O’Brien, Carrig who passed away on Friday 16th December. After funeral Mass in The Church of the Annunciation, Carrig on Sunday last, burial took place in the adjoining cemetery. May he rest in peace.
