Capt. Steve Muir organised to have Martin O’Meara’s medals taken to his grave site for some photographs. They had the Commanding Officer of the 16th Battalion, The Royal Western Australia Regiment (LTCOL Leigh Partridge) and the Regimental Sergeant Major (WO1 Richard Bushnell) there for the occasion, and they brought the Battalion’s Colours with them as well.

 

Rags Golf

Rags golf AGM will take place on Friday November 11th At the Ferry Inn. This is an opportunity to discuss the future of the society which has been going for the past twenty years. Our Christmas charity outing has been booked for Portumna golf club on Wednesday 28th December. Proceeds to go to local charities.

North Tipp Ploughing.

Everyone is invited to come along to a celebration and presentation night organised by the North Tipp Ploughing for their Gold medal winner in the U28 class, Ethan Harding, Borrisokane. The event will take place on Saturday night November 19th in Paddy’s Terryglass where Ethan will be feted for his success on the ploughing fields of Rathniska during the National Championships held last September. We look forward to seeing you there.
The committee wish to thank everyone who supported the recent poker classic, those who sold and bought tickets for the raffle and those who donated spot prizes. Also to Hannigans Kilbarron who hosted the event and the lovely delicious food and desert which was most enjoyed and went down a treat with everyone. The night was a good success and our sincere thanks to all.
The committee also wish to thank Pat Gubbins of the I.V.E.T.A. (Irish Vintage Engine and Tractor Association), who attended our championships in Nenagh earlier this year and gave our ploughing participants and their vintage machinery wonderful coverage. We extend the thanks to our two local papers for their coverage and support, and to Jim Finn of Tipp FM who also gave the event coverage on his Agri programme when he interviewed our Secretary Denis Cahalan.
Our AGM will take place on Wednesday night November 30th in the Yanks, Borrisokane at 8.30pm. We hope to see all our members there on the night and new members will be very welcome.

Rathcabbin Christmas Fair.

Rathcabbin Development / Tidy Towns invites everyone to their  Christmas Fair on Sunday 4th December in Rathcabbin Community Hall.  Come along and get your Christmas present from the crafts and gifts that will be on display from 5 to 7pm where there will be something for everyone and Santa will be there at 6.15pm to meet all the children too. There will also be a magic show at 5.30pm. and to get you in the festive mood, you can enjoy music and a festive raffle.  The Christmas tree will light up the village commencing with the big switch on at 7pm.  Anyone who would like to have a craft table please call (087) 3902142 or Rathcabbin Tidy Towns. This will be a great evening out for all the family so do please come along and support local. All money raised goes back into the village upkeep.

Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to the family and relatives of Andy Meehan, Manchester and formerly Lorrha who died recently. Funeral took place in Manchester. May he rest in peace

Offaly Hospice Fundraiser.

Tickets are now on sale for the Patrick Feeney concert which will take place in Birr Church on Friday 9th December. This would make an ideal Christmas night out so do please tell your friends and work mates.  €25 Please don’t miss it as it promises to be a great night out too. A Blood Donor Clinic will be held in the Abbey Court Hotel, Nenagh on 7th, 8th, 9th & 10th Nov. from 16:45 – 20:00.  Appointments may be booked on 1800 222 111.

Church News.

 Bereavement Mass.

 The annual bereavement Mass will take place on Thurs 17th Nov. at 7.30pm in Lorrha Church.  This is a special night for those who lost a loved one in the past year. It includes Mass and a special candle. It is a remembrance ceremony. All are welcome. Please let us know if there is anyone you wish to have remembered at this Mass.

Blessing of Graves.

 The Blessing of Graves will be in Bonoham Cemetery after 11.30am Mass in Rathcabbin, on Sunday 13th November. (12.30pm approx).  and the blessing of Graves will be in Lorrha Cemetery at 2pm on Sunday November 13th.

Mass times in our parish are as follows. Monday Mornings at 9.30am in Lorrha Church (except Bank Holidays). Every Saturday evening at 6.30pm in Lorrha Church. Every Sunday morning at 11.30am in Rathcabbin Church.

GAA Notes

There was No Winner of this weeks lotto jackpot of €13,600. The numbers drawn on 7 November were: 2-6-12-30.  4 Match 3’s: Eugene Kennedy, Martha Kennedy, Bridget Madden, Michael O’Meara (Lisballyard).  Promoters: Eamonn Maher, Sean Mannion, Mulrooney’s Gala.  Next Monday’s jackpot is €13,700 with Team 5 in charge of the draw. ​Under 21 Hurling: The first round of the North ‘B’ Championship is v Silvermines in Dolla at 12 noon this Sunday.

Well done: To Shane Brophy, who was presented with the 2020 MacNamee award in Croke Park last Saturday. Shane was awarded for best GAA publication, for ‘Chiselled from ash’ – an autobiography of Kilruane legend Len Gaynor.

Social Dancing: Continues next Friday at 9.30pm in the Tony Reddin Centre to the music of Adrian Ryan.
