Lorrha Notes

The U16 squad who participated in a blitz recently in Roscrea.

Ploughing Success.

North Tipp Ploughing committee wish to extend congratulations to Borrisokane man Ethan Harding who claimed First place in the U/28 conventional class at the National Ploughing Championships held last week and to Lorrha man Ciarán Milne who went on to claim the 3rd position in the 3 furrow conventional class. It was a successful three days ploughing overall for the North Tipp club as chairman Ray Clancy, Lorrha picked up the 4th position in the Hydrolic vintage class and another Lorrha man Tom Duffy came 5th in the Intermediate junior class. Well done lads and indeed well done to all our club men who participated. We extend many thanks also to everyone who helped out during the three day event.
The North Tipp club wishes to extend many congratulations to Eamonn Tracey from Carlow who was crowned world champion in the conventional class and John Whelan from Wexford who took the reversible ploughing class. Both men will represent Ireland in the World Ploughing Championships again next year. History will be made as it will be the very first time the pair have done the double in the world event. Overall, this year’s event was a very successful one for both the North Tipp club and for Ireland.

Wedding Bells.

Congratulations and many good wishes is extended to Rosemary Reddin, daughter of Padraic and Martina, Rathcabbin and Evan Clerkin, son of Sean and Phil, Monaghan who were married on September 17th . The happy couple celebrated their wedding in Ashley Park House, Ardcroney, with their family and friends and a great time was had by all. We wish Rosemary and Evan the best of luck in the years ahead as they settle down to married life in Kildare.

Camogie News.

Our girls are starting into the 11s and 13s leagues for the next 4 weeks, unfortunately our first match ended with a defeat away to Ballina. The girls played with great heart, and despite missing a number of girls with injury , put in a great team performance. Next match is v Nenagh at home Thursday evening. Our U11 are out Monday evening at home v Shannon Rovers, and we welcome 3 new girls Ruby Ryan, Katie Lambe and Muireann Kennedy, best of luck to all.
We were delighted to be invited by the Carroll family in Roscrea to a U16 Blitz held in honour of Patsy and Dickie Carroll at the weekend. The girls put in very impressive performances throughout their 4 games, narrowly missing on silverware in the Shield final. Every girl deserves great praise for her work rate throughout the year , from the younger girls who have played every grade so that they don’t let their team down , to the girls who struggled though injuries or just back, and to all the team for their can do attitude all around the pitch. They are a great prospect for the future. Thank you to the Coaches and Mentors for their dedication and hard work since February this year, Ken Cleary, Siobhan Leahy, Tom Kennedy, Joe Pyke and Caroline O’Brien.
Our  last Junior A championship game versus Kildangan ended in a defeat in Puckane . Despite a strong opening performance by Lorrha, Kildangan pulled away to lead by 5 points at the interval. A number of goal chances by Lorrha were superbly stopped on the line and Kildangan, through some great points scored when on to win and progress to a county semi final.  We are awaiting confirmation on whether Shield or Plate finals will be held in the Junior A competition. A big thanks to the girls who have shown great loyalty to this team over the past number of years and to the Management team of  Padraig Madden, Aiden McIntyre, Pauline Hoctor, Physios Ann Delahunt and John Harding and Joint Captains Caoimhe Kennedy & Aoife Brady , for all their dedication.

Rathcabbin NS 75 Years

As mentioned last year, Rathcabbin National School plans to mark its 75th year with a celebration. We will celebrate on Sunday October 16th, after mass/1pm at the school. It will be exactly 75 years since the first classes were taught in the building in October 1947.
The school was hoped to be ready in 1946, but in autumn 47, after some delay in construction in a very different- post World War 2 Ireland, the school community began a new era.  We invite all pupils, families, past pupils and their families, friends and everyone that knows the school to come and enjoy the day. There will be some guests, some entertainment and refreshments at the school, and a chance to meet old friends and neighbours.  There will be more information so keep an eye out for updates. If you have any queries, information to contribute or connections to the school in the past etc, feel free to text 0864140102 or email rathcabbinns75@gmail.com. In the mean-time, please spread the word and keep the date in mind. Thank you.
