Lorrha Notes

                                                       Lorrha Made it Down Under.

Lorrha featured on the 7 News in Perth recently when the TV station featured an Exclusive piece on the visit of the Martin O’Meara VC to Lorrha on August 13th last. HE Gary Gray was featured unveiling the Martin O’Meara plaque and holding the VC.  The news story also covered the return of the VC to the Army Museum there.  Captain Stephen Muir, who accompanied the VC to Lorrha, was interviewed and spoke of the amendment that was made by the Government to allow the VC visit Ireland. Ian Loftus who wrote a book about Martin, was also interviewed as was retired Major Henry Fijolek who along with Neil Dailey brought Martin’s VC to Ireland back in July 2019. It was great to see Lorrha and Martin’s story feature on this news station.
It was sad to see the bunting come down last week in the Village  but all good things must come to an end. The Lorrha Martin O’Meara committee wish to offer thanks to all the volunteers who helped out once again on the evening.

 Lorrha Camogie.

Hard  luck to our U12 girls in the U12 Cup Final last week. Despite a great display of hurling they came away without the spoils . They have provided great entertainment throughout the summer with a number of girls also playing with older teams. They should all be very proud of their achievements and their can do attitude make them a great prospect for the future of Lorrha camogie.  The U13 League will commence this week. More details to follow.
Our U15s went down to a strong Templemore team in Clonmore on Sunday  morning in the Quarter final knockout. A  number of injured players made the task more difficult . They had put in excellent performances against Cashel and Kilruane that will stand to them for the future and we look forward to next seasons camogie. Best wishes to Lily Sherlock, Clodagh Kennedy, Julie Burke, Merial Tooher and Grace Broderick as they recover from injuries.
Our second Junior A championship game took place in Ballylooby v Brain Borus , which ended in a defeat. A special thanks to girls who made a huge efforts to be there. Our next match is v Kildangan  on Saturday 10th September at 6 pm in Puckane. The draw for the EuroMillions promoters prize will take place Monday 12th September.

Well done to the Lorrha Intermediate team who recorded another victory in the championship played in Dolla On Sunday last. Final score Lorrha 2.18 Boherlahan – Dualla 1.18. The lads are now through to the quarter final. Pictured here is Patrick ‘Bonner’ Maher who was heavily marked throughout the game.  Pic: Rose Mannion.

Commiserations to the Junior ‘B’ team and management who lost to Portroe in the North final on Sunday last. In a game that went to extra time, Portroe pulled away  to win 0.17, Lorrha 0.13. The lads gave it everything in a very exciting and often heart stopping game and the final ten minutes of extra time was just heartbreaking for the team who worked so hard. However, they are going in the right direction and have the county to look forward to so all is not lost.

Lorrha Development Association (Heritage sub-committee.

Following such a tremendous event ‘Honouring Imogen Stuart’ we would like to acknowledge our indebtedness to the many individuals and groups that made her visit such an outstanding success. Special thanks to Fr. Tom for his all- round support during the weeks of preparation leading up to the visit. Thanks too to all the volunteers who worked so diligently to have the village, the Community Hall and the church grounds looking so well for the occasion, the stewards, the traffic controllers, the people who came from far and near to attend the event and experience being in the presence of two amazingly gifted sculptors whose work we are so fortunate to have in our church and the volunteers who helped with the much appreciated hospitality experienced in the hall as a follow up to the church-based event. All of this was noticed and acknowledged by our special guests and by many of the visitors to our village on a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon. A truly community experience which benefits us all.
