A open invitation is extended to everyone to come to Lorrha on Saturday Augist 13th for the arrival of the Martin O’Meara’s VC.   We are asking everyone in the village to put out a Lorrha, Tipp or Irish flag for the day please. The village is decorated and looking very well and we offer our sincere thanks to all our volunteers who made this possible. This will be a once off occasion where everyone can come along, view the Victoria Cross and take a photograph. There will be a wreath laying ceremony at the Martin O’Meara monument in the village at 10am followed by an Ecumenical Service in the grounds of St. Ruadhan’s Church/ Dominican Abbey. The VC will then go on display for everyone to view. We look forward to welcoming you all to Lorrha for this unique occasion.

Honouring Imogen Stuart.

To mark Heritage Week (August 13th – 21st) Lorrha Development Association (Heritage sub-committee) is preparing for a visit to the village of renowned sculptor, Imogen Stuart, who was commissioned to design a new altar, ambo, celebrant’s chair and sanctuary lamp for St Ruadhan’s church when it was refurbished in the 1970’s. A special event to honour this amazing woman and celebrate her craftwork will take place in the church on Sunday, 14th August at 3pm (duration of event – 1 hour approx, so bring your cushion!) This will be followed by an informal gathering in the Community Hall where tea, coffee and light refreshments will be served. Sympathy.

The whole country was plunged into sadness to hear of the sudden and untimely death of 24 year old Dylan Quirke from Clonoulty/Rossmore GAA club, while playing a match against Kilruane last Friday evening. What a terrible shock for his parents and family whom we in Lorrha offer our sympathies. May Dylan rest in peace.

Still Time.

There is still time to donate  to the Denis Maher, Tommy Houlihan and Stephen Houlihan fund Malin to Mizen in aid of Pieta House. A whopping €7375 has been donated  and if you would like to add your name to the list, you can still do so as the page will stay open for the next few weeks.
