Members of Rathcabbin Development/Tidy Towns committee met with Cllr. Michael O’Meara last week to discuss repairs and future work plans to be undertaken around the village. The group are delighted with the support and encouragement they have received from the local community but more help is needed. They continue their work evenings every Thursday evening from 7pm if anyone wants to help out.   Pictured from left are Denise Clancy (Chairperson), Cllr. Junior Disco

A fully supervised Junior Disco for all 6th class children will be held in Aglish Hall on Friday 17th June from.7.30-10pm. This is a Ticket only event  and tickets costing €10 will be available on Tues 31st May & Wed  1st June in Aglish Hall from 7.30-8.30pm

News from Lorrha School.

Safety Cycling.

Our pupils finished their course on safety cycling with Richard and team. The course was most enjoyable and very informative on the safe cycling on our busy roads.

Hurling Blitz.

Pupils participated in a hurling blitz which was held in Borrisokane recently. Our opponents were Aglish and Terryglass schools. Thanks to Liam in Aglish for co-ordinating the day.

Ecologist Visit.

Our thanks to Ecologist Anne Marie Mahon for her well presented video and bio diversity walk with the pupils recently.

‘Hairspray’

We travelled to Portumna Community School for their TY matinee musical ‘Hairspray’ which took place last week. Our pupils enjoyed the play and had a lovely time. Well done to the TY students, some of whom are past pupils of our school and many thanks for the invitation to attend this wonderful production.

Confirmation.

Well done to our 6th class pupils Matthew, Jamie, Katie and Louise who received the Sacrament of Confirmation recently in Our Lady Queen of Ireland Church, Rathcabbin. Many thanks to Fr. Tom and all who were involved in the organisation of the ceremony.

Communion.

We congrulate our second class pupils of Zoe and Oliver who received the Sacrament of First Communion recently in St. Ruadhan’s Church. Many thanks to Fr. Michael and all who assisted with the ceremony making it a memorable day for our pupils.

Fundraiser

Rathcabbin School Parent’s Association is holding a 5km walk on Sun 12th June to raise funds for our National School! There is also a bake sale in the school on the day which showcases all the parents baking talents! The walk will commence after Mass from the school. All are very welcome to attend and take part on the day and there will be refreshments and a bake sale before the walk in the National School. There will also be a “brown bread” making competition & we invite entries from anyone interested and this will be judged by local Judges! Please contact Clare on 0871364936 if you have any queries.

Well Done.

Well done to Clodagh McIntyre and the Tipperary Senior camogie team who for the second week running have shared the points, this time with Dublin  in the second round of the Senior Championship on Saturday last recording 0.10 points each. An injury time point from Cáit Devane see Tipp hanging in as they chase a spot in the semi-final. We wish Clodagh and the girls the best of luck this Saturday 4th June when they play Waterford in Semple Stadium. This game is a curtain raiser to the Munster hurling final.

Lorrha Intermediates.

Hard luck to the Intermediate team who lost out by one point to Ballina in the hurling league semi-final on Sunday last in a game that went to extra time.

Church News.

First Friday Mass will be celebrated on Friday, 3rd June in St. Ruadhan’s Church,  Lorrha  at 8pm.
Mass times in our parish are as follows. Monday Mornings at 9.30am in Lorrha Church (except Bank Holidays). Every Saturday evening at 6.30pm in Lorrha Church. Every Sunday morning at 11.30am in Rathcabbin Church.

Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to the Molloy families Redwood and Rathcabbin on the death of Ann Foley, Carlow which occurred on Friday 27th May. After funeral Mass on Sunday last in the Church of the Holy Family, Askea burial took place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. May she rest in peace.

Collection Buckets.

Lorrha Camogie.

Medal presentation night in Dooleys Hotel  on Saturday 11th of June with a meal, band an DJ. Tickets are available from committee members so get your dancing shoes on for a what will be a celebratory night for the parish.
Well done  to Clodagh McIntyre and the Tipp team who drew with Dublin on Saturday in the second round of the championship.

Lorrha Cemetery Committee.

The annual  Lorrha Cemetery Mass will be held on Saturday evening June 25th at 6.30pm, weather permitting. There will be a maintenance collection on the evening and we are very grateful for the continued support.

Summer Camp.

Busy Bodies Summer Camp 2022 takes place in Killeen National School, with week 1 commencing 4th July, & week 2 from 12th July. Activities include sports, swimming, cooking, music, arts and much more. Ages 3 to 10 years. Time from 9.30am to 3pm with the school opening at 8am. Bring a lunch. Phone Ann on 087 9625218 for more info & booking details.

GAA News

There was No Winner of this weeks lotto jackpot of €11,300. The numbers drawn on 30 May were: 2-5-12-28. 5 Match 3’s: Breda Buckley, Michael D’Arcy, Geraldine Dolan, Michael Hurley, Alison Quinn. Promoters: Kathleen Gleeson, Margaret O’Brien, Mulrooney’s Gala. Next Monday’s jackpot is €11,400 with Team 6 in charge of the draw. Thank you for your continued support.

Intermediate Hurling: Hard luck to the intermediate hurlers who lost to Ballina on Sunday in the County League Division 3 semi-final, 2-30 to 5-20, after extra time.
The championship campaign begins on Friday 1st July with a North Intermediate semi-final against Moneygall.
Junior Hurling: North Junior ‘B’ League quarter final against Kiladangan this Saturday in Moatfield at 7.00pm.

Juvenile Blitz: Four of our teams took part in a juvenile blitz in Birr at the weekend. They looked resplendent in their new jerseys which were sponsored by David Fogarty, House Fitness.

Social Dancing: Continues this Friday at 9.30pm to the music of Colm Burke.
