Monaghan Tragedy With Lorrha Connections.

The tragic car accident on Friday night last July 16th that claimed the life of 19 year old Brendan ‘Ogie’ Duffy came just a short time after Ogie captained the Monaghan football team to victory over Donegal in the Ulster U20 semi-final. He was a promising young player who was also a member of the senior squad. Ogie was nephew of Padraig O’Meara, Curragha and he paid many visits to Lorrha and to his cousins Michael, Catherine, Denis and Hannah to whom we offer our deepest sympathy as well as to his parents Esther and Brendan and sisters Claire and Áine, his aunts, uncles, relations, friends and all his team mates. His mother Esther grew up in Portumna while his grandfather Dan O’Meara, who farmed in Curragha, captained the Lorrha senior hurling team of 1948 to North victory.  His grandmother was Mary Moylan from Cullagh in Rathcabbin.
After funeral Mass in St. Maccartan’s Cathedral Monaghan on Wednesday 21st. burial will take place to St. Joseph’s Old Cemetery, Latlurcan. May he rest in peace.
