2021 Parish Calendar.

Lorrha Development/Tidy Towns are looking for photographs for the 2021 edition of the very popular Lorrha/Dorrha Parish Calendar. New Arrivals.

A number of new babies arrived in the parish community over the last few months and we welcome them and wish them and their happy parents all the best for the future. Included in the births are two sets of twins, Jack and Lily Sherlock born to Mary (Carroll) and Eoin Sherlock (Curraduff), Luke and Daniel Kennedy born to Sandra and Donal Kennedy, (Gurteen), baby Rosie Kate Dolan daughter of Katie and Philip Dolan (Curraduff), baby Brendan Buglar, son of Chrissie (Ryan) and Brian Bugler (Rathcabbin Village), and Baby Cara Coleman, daughter of Sharon (Slevin) and Tommy Coleman (Kilregane). Congratulations to all and sincere good wishes.

Church News.

Mass Times:  Monday Mornings at 9.30am in Lorrha Church (except Bank Holidays). Every Saturday evening at 6.30pm in Lorrha Church.  Every Sunday morning at 11.30am in Rathcabbin Church, Borrisokane: 7.00pm Saturdays and  10.30am Sundays, Terryglass:           9.30am Sundays, Kilbarron: 8pm Saturdays, all for the foreseeable future.

The Rosary will be recited before both masses each weekend to ask for Our Lady’s protection during this pandemic and to end the spread of this awful virus which has affected our lives immeasurably.

Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to Teresa Dillon and family Lorrha on the death of her brother Louis Starr of Borrisokane, which occurred on September 2nd at Galway Hospice. After funeral Mass in Terryglass Church on Saturday 5th. burial took place in the adjoining cemetery. May he rest in peace.

Well Done.

Congratulations to the Lorrha Junior B camogie squad who had a great win over Silvermines 4.15 to 0.5 in the quarter final. They will take on Moycarkey Borris in the semi-final which is down for Sunday 27th September at 12 noon in the county pitch at the Ragg.
A great team performance was put in by the U12 team v Portroe on Sunday and they will compete in a Shied Final – date and venue TBC. Upcoming matches for the U14 team will also be confirmed this week.

The parish is a sea of blue and white in support of the senior hurling squad and the camogie girls. The best of luck to the lads and management who take on Mullinahone in the final of the Seamus O’Riain cup on Saturday coming the 19th. The game will be played in Semple Stadium at 2.00pm. Good luck lads.

Hard Luck:

Commiserations to the U/16 B squad and management who came up against a strong Boherlahan Dualla in the County semi-final. Final score – Lorrha 1.16 Boherlahan Dualla 2.17. You still have a North medal and no doubt you will be back.
Commiserations also to the under-14team who played in the North ‘B’ final v Roscrea but were defeated 4-12 to 1-9. Hard luck to the players and mentors.

A Helping Hand.

 Lorrha GAA club members are offering help to any elderly people in the parish who need help whether it’s to collect groceries, help with meals etc. during Covid – 19 Pandemic. GAA News:

There was No Winner of this weeks lotto jackpot of €9,600. The numbers drawn on 14 September were: 12-21-29-31. 2 Match 3’s: Paul Houlihan, D&K Houlihan share €100. Promoters: Margaret O’Brien, D&K Mannion, Internet. Next Monday’s draw will be for a jackpot of €9,750 with €100 Match 3 pot. Team 5 in charge of the draw. Thank you for four continued support

Senior Hurling: The very best of luck to the lads who take on Mullinahone in the Seamus Ó Riain Cup final on Saturday at 2.00pm in Semple Stadium. The game will be streamed live on the Tipperary GAA website.

Minor Football: Lorrha Rovers Gaels take on Moneygall/Clonakenny in the North ‘B’ Championship this Sunday at 5.00pm in Lorrha.

Under 16: Hard luck to the under-16s who put up a brave effort, but ultimately came up short in their county semi-final against a strong Boherlahan-Dualla team on Saturday. It was a magnificent year for our lads, in winning the north championship and we’d like to thank all players, mentors and parents for their efforts over the course of the year.

Under 14: Hard luck to the under 14’s who were defeated by Roscrea 4-12 to 1-9 in the North ‘B’ Final in Moneygall last Tuesday.

Thanks: to the Friars Tavern Lorrha who fed the U16s and the juniors after their games in the last two weeks and to Cathal McIntyre in Portumna Golf Club who put on breakfast for the senior hurlers a couple of times over the last few weeks.

Camogie: Well done to the Lorrha junior camogie team who had a comprehensive 4-15 to 0-5 win over Silvermines on Sunday in the county junior ‘B’ quarter final, which sees them through to a semi-final aginst Moycarkey/Borris that will take place on the weekend September 26-27.

Sympathies: Sympathies to former Lorrha manager Joe Errity on the death of his mother Cella and to the Starr family on the death of Louis.
