Church News.

Bishop Fintan Monahan has issued a Pastoral Message in the light of recommendations issued by the Public Health Authorities on March 11th.  in relation to the COVID-19 (Corona Virus) Pandemic. You can read the full text of the Pastoral Message on the Diocesan Website. In order to ensure compliance with the directives all of the faithful are dispensed from their obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation (including St. Patrick’s Day) until March 29th when the situation will be reviewed.
People may listen to Mass each day on the Parish Radio Link at 105.4FM. It will be broadcast each weekday from Monday to Friday at 10.00am and at 11.00am on Sundays. The Church will continue to be open throughout the day and people are welcome to come and pray before the Lord in the Tabernacle, light a candle and pray that all may be safe from this virus.
Funerals and Weddings may be celebrated but only by observing the protocols laid down by the government. Only 100 people will be admitted to the church and they must observe the principle of social distancing within the Church. For this reason people are asked to consider, in the event of a funeral, to ensure that the immediate family of the deceased and close personal friends be given priority for admission to the Church. The funeral Mass will be broadcast on the Parish Radio Link at 105.4FM. Since a greater number of people (500) are permitted to gather outside, attendance at the graveside service in the cemetery may be possible instead.
Bishop Fintan says that ‘I appreciate that these restrictions may be difficult for people of faith and devotion to the Eucharist. We are trying to do what’s best for our community and to protect those who may be vulnerable in this Pandemic. With some consultation and reflection we will explore ways in which we can meet other pastoral needs and continue to express our identity as a Christian Community. Blessed Michael Archangel, protect us. St. Flannan, pray for us. St. Mochulla, pray for us’.
