News from Lorrha School

We were delighted to receive word that our school had won the WEEE Ireland Pledge 2 2018/2019 Battery Recycling challenge competition for the most batteries collected per student in Tipperary which amounted to 240kg.

This was indeed great news and a lovely surprise for us all and we acknowledge and congratulate all our students, their families and the wider community too, who worked so hard collecting batteries. Special mention to Ann Delahunt Smyth of Busy Bodies Montessori School, Rathcabbin, her students and parents who have played a big part in collecting used batteries with us. This is a wonderful achievement and it is very positive to see so many young people caring about our environment and their community.
As a result, Bosco who is WEEE Irl ambassador, paid a visit to our school to entertain the children and he received a great response from the pupils.
We also were awarded a free hands on science workshop delivered by Anyone 4 Science and this received a wonderful response too.
Our school continues to collect all used batteries including fence and motor cycle batteries which can be left into the school. Our recycling efforts also benefit the LauraLynn Children’s Hospice, so keep them batteries coming.
