Two young men from the parish, Conor Kennedy, son of Tom and Deirdre, Abbeyville,  (right) will  represent Lorrha school and Robert Duffy, son of Tom and Martina, Walshpark, will  represent Rathcabbin school, at half time during the senior game in the primary games hurling. Cousins Robert Duffy and Nicola Kelly, who recently enjoyed her primary game camogie with Tipp, are great grandchildren of Tom Duffy who won an All Ireland with Tipperary in 1925. Enjoy the experience lads in Ennis.

 

Well done to the young people of the parish who were confirmed by Bishop Fintan Monahan on Friday May 24th in Rathcabbin Church.

Refresh Lorrha Continues.

Refresh work evening in Lorrha continues on Monday evening May 27th.  Meet outside the Community Hall at 7.00pm. Further info from  (086) 8493595 / (087) 2601413. A big effort is needed please.

Biodiversity Day

Biodiversity is a word which refers to the variety of life around us. Caring for biodiversity is everyone’s responsibility and has huge benefits for us all. To raise awareness about this and to help you discover how you can be actively involved in protecting and enhancing our local wildlife, this event is being organised jointly by Lorrha Development Association, Lorrha N.S. and Sceal. It will take place on Wednesday, 5th June between 10.30 and 12.30 at the Community Hall, Lorrha. Michael O’Meara, MCC who is a beekeeper and a wildlife enthusiast, will be the guest speaker on the occasion.  Weather permitting the event will take place outdoors in the area in front of the hall and refreshments will be available. Everyone is welcome.

Sympathy.

Rathcabbin Players extend sympathy to Teresa Ryan Feehan on the death of her uncle Martin Ryan, Crinkill, which occurred on Friday May 24th. After funeral Mass in St. Brendan’s Church Birr on Monday last 27th. burial took place in Clonoghill Cemetery, Birr. May he rest in peace.

New Arrivals.

Congratulations are extended  to Mary Walsh and Robert Delaney Rathcabbin on the birth of their  daughter, Grace. A little sister for Leah, Ava and Lexie.  Congratulations also to Mary Hogan and Kevin Bergin Rathcabbin on the birth of their son, Jack. Both babies arrived into the world last week-end to great enjoyment and excitement for the families.  Well done to all concerned.

Annual Event.

Rathcabbin National School annual sponsored family walk and Tractor run will take place on Sunday June 9th at 12.30 after Mass. All are welcome to come along and take part. Any further information to Clare on (087) 1364936.

News From Lorrha School.

Congratulations to our Confirmation class of  Kian, Conor and Ceri who received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Friday last in Rathcabbin Church. We wish them well in the future.

Sympathy.
Sympathy is extended to Mary and Sean Lane and family on the death of Mary’s uncle Martin Ryan, Crinkill, which occurred on Friday May 24th. After funeral Mass in St. Brendan’s Church Birr on Monday last 27th. burial took place in Clonoghill Cemetery, Birr. May he rest in peace.

Sympathy is also extended to Sandra  and Adrian Naylor Rathcabbin and extended family on the death of  Sandra’s mother Marian Fogarty (nee Forde), Portumna which occurred on Saturday May 25th. After funeral Mass in St. Brigid’s Church on Tuesday 28th private cremation took place in Shannon Crematorium. May she rest in peace.

Date For Your Diary.

The Aglish Sociable ladies are working tirelessly these days organising their forthcoming grand finale of their present fundraiser, which will take place on Saturday night 15th June in Aglish Hall.  The hooley in the hall will kick off from 6pm with live music by Colin Kenny, Sarah and Simon and Sean Gleeson. There’s going to be plenty of craic and the all important BBQ too. The draw for the raffle tickets which are presently on sale, will also take place with spot prizes galore on the night.  A great evening / night is guaranteed. So mark the date in your diary and don’t forget to be there. All proceeds will go to Suaimhneas and North Tipp Hospice.

Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes;

When cleaning out your wardrobe to make room for the new collection, please remember Lorrha Development/Tidy Towns who continue to collect unwanted clothes throughout the year. Items of clothing must be clean and dry and in good condition please and we can supply bags if you want. We can also collect to make it easy for you, just call (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (087) 2601413 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows, cushions, carpets, rugs and mats including bath toilet and shower mats soiled or wet clothing but good quality unwanted clothing for re-use (not recycling). All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village. Senior Hurling: Our senior hurlers continued their unbeaten run on Division 2 Group 2 of the County League with a 4-16 to 0-17 win away to Ballingarry on Sunday, a game in which Willie Maher scored 4-2 from play. Lorrha top a tight group with two games to go with their next game at home to Shannon Rovers on Sunday 9th June where a win is needed to stay in the hunt for promotion.

Junior Hurling: Hard luck to the junior hurlers who were defeated for the second year in a row in the North Junior ‘B’ Hurling League Final, on this occasion by Silvermines in Puckane on Friday evening, 2-12 to 0-14. It was still a good campaign with plenty of positives to take into the championship which begins on 7/8 June at home to Moneygall. The remaining group fixtures are: Ballina (away 15th June); Newport (home 29th June); Toomevara (away 6th July); Shannon Rovers (away 13th July).

Minor: The Lorrha Rovers Gaels minor hurlers have reached the North League Division 2 final against Moneygall/Clonakenny which will be played after the state exams. The Championship will begin on 3rd July, if depending on Tipperary’s progress in the Munster minor championship with Lorrha Rovers drawn to face Burgess (home), Borris-IIeigh (away), Portroe (home), Ballinahinch/Templederry (away).

Under 16: The Under 16 ‘B’ Hurling Championship will begin on Monday 8th July away to Borris-IIeigh. The other fixtures are: Kilruane MacDonaghs (home 15th July); Portroe (away 22nd July; Borrisokane (home 29th July); Bye – 5th August

Under 14: The Under 14 ‘B’ Hurling Championship begins on Thursday 6th June with Lorrha at home to Kiladangan. They are away to Borrisokane on 13th June; home to Silvermines on 20th June and away to Moneygall/Clonakenny on 11th July.

Under 12: The Under 12 ‘B’ Hurling Championship begins on Tuesday 4th June against Silvermines in Moatfield at 7.00pm.

Primary Schools: Best of luck to Rathcabbin NS in their upcoming County Under 13 semi-final against Dualla NS.

Primary Game: Best of luck to Conor Kennedy (Lorrha NS) and Robert Duffy (Rathcabbin NS) who have been selected to play for Tipperary in the Primary Game against Clare in Ennis next Sunday.

Tipperary: Best of luck to Patrick Maher, Brian Hogan, Colm Fogarty and the Tipperary senior and minor hurlers respectively in the Munster Championship against Clare next Sunday.
