Lorrha Notes

There’s a heatwave on the way for the week-end. Enjoy!

Noxious Weeds.

Ragwort, Thistle, Docks, Common Barberry, Male Wild Hop Plant and Wild Oats are all scheduled as noxious weeds under the 1936 Noxious Weeds Act. Tipperary County Council is reminding any person that may be responsible for land on which these weeds are growing is liable, upon conviction, to a maximum fine of €1,000. The most commonly reported noxious weed due to its toxic nature and risk to animals is without doubt, Ragwort. It is a highly poisonous plant as the alkaloids it contains can cause serious damage, or in some instances the deaths of farm or domestic animals. There are four ways to safeguard against loss of animals from ragwort poisoning and that is by ploughing, pulling, cutting or chemical control. Great care is necessary when implementing these measures, including disposal of the plant in the interest of animal welfare. Tipperary County Council is looking for the co-operation of the public in the eradication of the above named invasive plants from your property. For advice on the most effective way to destroy them you should contact a local Teagasc/ Agricultural Advisor. Useful information is also available on the Department of Agriculture website www.agriculture.gov.ie/farmingsectors/crops/controlofnoxious weeds.

Tree Planting.

Lorrha Development planted a number of trees for national tree week which took place towards the end of March this year. The committee would like to thank the pupils and staff of Lorrha school who supported and helped with the planting of the trees and to North Tipperary Co. Council who supplied the trees.

Well Done.

Congratulations to Patrick Bonner Maher and Brian Hogan and the Tipperary hurlers on their win over Galway on Saturday last. Final score Tipperary 2.19 Galway 0.20. Although Bonner wasn’t playing due to a  achilles tendon injury  he picked up at training, he was no doubt watching from home.  Bonner  was very unlucky to pick up this injury after suffering a cruciate ligament injury two years ago. This injury is expected to see him out of action for possibly the rest of the season for both club and county and is a huge loss to both. We extend our best wishes to him as he faces surgery this week and wish him the best of luck in the future.

Great Win.

Congratulations to Clodagh McIntyre who helped the Tipperary senior camogie squad to an eleven point victory over Waterford in the second round of the National League on Saturday last. Final score Tipp 2.16 Waterford 0.11. Clodagh’s goal came in the 16th second of commencement setting her side up for an overwhelming win. Well done Clodagh and keep up the good work. Tipp will now await the results of the games next week-end to see if they can progress to the knock out stages.

GAA News.

There was No Winner of this weeks lotto jackpot of €5,250. The numbers drawn on 24 May were: 12-28-29-32.  No Match 3.  Lucky Dips: Geraldine Dolan, Ken Fletcher, Kathleen Gleeson, Ogie Moran. Promoters: Margaret O’Brien, Kevin Molloy, Internet. Next Monday’s draw will be for a jackpot of €5,400 with a Match 3 pot of €140 so make sure you are in the draw. Team 1 in charge of draw. Thank you for your continued support.

Patrick Maher: After the terrible news of Patrick Maher’s achilles injury, we would like to wish our most decorated player all the best with his recovery. It’s a cruel blow for Bonner to be sidelined so soon after he recovered from his 2019 cruciate injury, but the way he bounced back from that one shows that there’s no better man to do it again.

Tipperary: Well-wishes to Brian Hogan on the concussion he suffered last week, which kept him out of the Galway game. Well done to Clodagh McIntyre and the Tipp senior camogie team on their win over Waterford.
