Harvest Thanksgiving.

Lorrha Church of Ireland’s Harvest Thanksgiving Service will take place on Sunday 14th October @ 8.00 pm. This year, in conjunction with our service, we will be marking the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the “RMS Leinster” and we will be commemorating the life of Ms Ella de Burgh Dwyer, of Ballyquirke, Lorrha, who tragically lost her life in the sinking, and is buried in the adjoining graveyard. All are welcome.

Responder Fundraiser.

A Church gate collection will be held on the week-end of 20th / 21st October in aid of Rathcabbin first responders group. There will also be a coffee morning after 11.30am Mass in Rathcabbin  on the 21st in Kellys. Please support.

Annual General Meeting.

Rathcabbin Players will hold their AGM on Wednesday night Oct. 3rd at 9.00pm in Rathcabbin Hall. All members are asked to attend and new members welcome.

Church News.

Please Note that all details of Mass times, dates and contact numbers are detailed on the parish web site www.lorrhadorrha.ie under local info and Churches. First Friday Mass on Oct. 5th will be celebrated in Lorrha Church at 8.00pm. Vigil Mass in Redwood Church on Saturday, 6th October at 6.30p.m.

Four Extra Marks.

Lorrha Village  gained a further four marks in the Tidy Towns competition which were announced recently. Well done and many thanks to all who helped in whatever way throughout the year with a special word of thanks to our dedicated scheme worker Michael and Tommy who were aided for awhile this year by Michelle. The adjudicator has made plenty of suggestions going forward to enhance the village even further.

Sympathy

Sympathy is extended to the Houlihan families on the death of Tom which occurred on Sunday last. May he rest in peace.

Lorrha Camogie:

Our Junior B’s are through to the County Semi-Final against Brian Borus next Sunday 7th Oct, venue and time to be confirmed. Check our facebook page for updates during the week. We are holding a fundraising table quiz in Kelly’s Rathcabbin next Fiday night (Oct 5th) @ 9pm. 40 euro for a table of 4, raffle on the night also. Please spread the word and come support our ladies.

Date for your Diary.

A fundraising concert will be held in St. Brendan’s Church, Birr on Thursday 6th December with Michael English. Proceeds from this fundraiser will be divided between five different charities, St. Brendan’s Church, Birr Responders, Billy Goulding, Birr Mental Health, Offaly & Westmeath Hospice. Tickets are priced at €25.00 each and are available from Ann Delahunt Smyth on (087) 9625218.


De-Clutter.

When cleaning out your wardrobe to make room for the new collection, please remember Lorrha Development/Tidy Towns who continue to collect unwanted clothes throughout the year. Items of clothing must be clean and dry and in good condition please and we can supply bags if you want. We can also collect to make it easy for you, just call (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (087) 2601413 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows, cushions, carpets, rugs and mats including bath toilet and shower mats soiled or wet clothing but good quality unwanted clothing for re-use (not recycling). All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village. Many thanks for your continued support.

Four Tipperary Saints.

Cloughjordan Heritage Group are holding a talk on the Four Tipperary Saints in the MacDonagh Museum in Cloughjordan on Wed 10th October at 8pm.The talk will be delivered by Professor Padraig O Riain from UCC who is author of  the book entitled The Four Tipperary Saints.The four saints are Ruadhan from Lorrha,Colum from Terryglass, Cronan from Roscrea and Mochaomhog from Twomileborris. All are welcome.

Lough Boors Training.

Lough Boora running, training, every Sunday morning at 9.15am sharp in Lough Boora Discovery Park. All walkers, joggers runners are welcome so do come and join us.

GAA Notes

Under 21: Lorrha are preparing for a quarter final of the North U21 ‘B’ Hurling Championship later this month. They await the outcome of the final losers group playoff between Borrisokane and Shannon Rovers Gaels before the draw is make.

Under 15: Lorrha Rovers Gaels have progressed to the semi-finals and finals of the U15 ‘B’ Hurling Plate which will be played in a blitz on Sunday 14th October in Borrisoleigh.

World Record: Our Under 12’s were part of a successful Guinness World Record attempt in Dublin on Sunday evening. The team, who reached a North ‘A’ final this year, were rewarded with a trip to Croke Park and made up the 1,772 children who took part in the largest hurling training session ever and will go into the record books. A enjoyable day for all the team and well done to all involved.

Child Welfare Course: If anyone is interested in doing a Child Welfare Course, contact Juvenile Chairman Tommy Kennedy 0879191689. At least 10 names are needed to organise the course.

Social Dancing: in the GAA Centre on Friday to the music of The Kelly family. Dancing 9.30pm to 12.30am.

Sympathy: Lorrha GAA Club would like to sympathise with the Houlihan family on the death of Tom Houlihan, Lorrha, who passed away over the weekend. Also to the Gohery family, Aglish, on the tragic passing of Declan Gohery. May they rest in peace.
