Best of luck.

The best of luck is extended to all the young people in the parish who are doing exams at this time and in particular during this lovely summer weather. Good luck to all.

Urgent Appeal.

Lorrha Tidy Towns are appealing for help with clean up around the village, approach roads and areas. Some painting, weeding, planting flowers, and watering what is already there, needs to be done urgently. Adjudication will be taking place in the coming weeks and If you can spare some time, let it be whatever time of the day that suits you, please contact (086) 8493595 / (087) 2601413 or (086) 8647166 to discuss. People are giving time already when it suits them to do so, and many thanks to those people but lots more help is needed urgently.

Recent Retirement.

Many congratulations are extended to Oliver Duggan, Portland on his recent retirement from An Garda Siochána. Oliver, who spent the last number of years stationed in Banagher, is wished many long, healthy, happy and ‘busy’ years ahead and an enjoyable retirement.

News from Lorrha School.

We are delighted to announce the collection of our fifth Green Flag which is for Biodiversity. Congratulations and well done to all who worked so hard over the last two years on securing the flag and learning so much along the way in doing so. Three pupils. Cian Claffey, Liam Kennedy and Ceri McGrath represented the school at the awards ceremony which took place in Athlone. Well done all.
All at Scoil Lua Naofa wish to extend the very best of luck to all our past students who will be sitting their Leaving and Junior exams commencing this Wednesday. We wish you well for the future.

Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to Tommy Cahalan, Lorrha and Denis Cahalan Nenagh and Rathcabbin on the death of their aunt Helena Cavanagh, Birr. Lena, who was 92 years old was wife of the late Joe of Cavanagh Foundry, Birr. After funeral Mass in St. Brendan’s Church, Birr on Monday last June 4th. burial took place in COI graveyard, Ballingarry. May she rest in peace.

Killaloe Diocese pilgrimage to Lourdes: Bishop Fintan Monahan will lead the 62nd Diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes from Shannon Airport on Tuesday 26th June, returning on Sunday 1st July. €695 full board for online booking at www.joewalshtours.ie   or €705 for paper booking.  Special section for sick or assisted pilgrims at a reduced price. Pope Francis coming to World Meeting of Families – be part of this great and exciting event by registering  or volunteering at www.worldmeeting2018.ie  All family members under 18 are free.  Access to all events is by registration and ticket.

Cheque Presentation.

Well done to the North Tipperary Ploughing organisers who helped and to all who were involved in whatever way, during the fundraising tractor run and to all who sold and bought tickets for Billy’s Recovery Story. A cheque for €2,620 was presented to Billy’s dad Victor on Sunday night last by chairman Ray Clancy and secretary Laura McKenna. The prize winners in the draw were 1st. €100 – S. Davis, 2nd. €70 – Liam Murphy, 3rd. €50 – Pauric Brennan, 4th.  Two tickets to Celtic match – Ronan Moran. Well done all.

De-Clutter.

When cleaning out your wardrobe to make room for the new collection, please remember Lorrha Development/Tidy Towns who continue to collect unwanted clothes throughout the year. Items of clothing must be clean and dry and in good condition please and we can supply bags if you want. We can also collect to make it easy for you, just call (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (087) 2601413 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows, cushions, carpets, rugs and mats including bath toilet and shower mats soiled or wet clothing but good quality unwanted clothing for re-use (not recycling). All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village. Many thanks for your continued support.

Tennis Coaching:

Coaching for Adults will commence Friday evenings from 7pm on June 15th, 22nd, 29th and July 5th. (4 weeks, 1 hour sessions, approx €55). Prices may vary based on group size. All levels catered for including beginners. Please text 087 3906067 with your name asap as places will be limited. Non members also welcome to sign up for coaching.

Holding On.

Congratulations to Brian Hogan, Patrick “Bonner” Maher, Eoin McIntyre and John Madden and the Tipp senior hurlers on their very fortunate draw game with Waterford last Sunday. It was Bonners goal that ignited the fire, so well done especially to him and the best of luck next Sunday in a must win game against Clare.

GAA News.

Senior: Lorrha’s next game in the County League is away to Kilruane MacDonaghs on Wednesday 13th June in Cloughjordan at 8.00pm.

Junior: The Juniors fell to a 2-16 to 0-12 defeat away to Newport in the opening round of the North ‘B’ Championship last Friday. Lorrha are back in action again next Tuesday 122th June when they take on Silvermines in Dolla at 7.30pm.

Under 14: The North Under 14 ‘B’ Hurling Championship gets underway this evening (Wednesday 6th June) but Lorrha have a bye in the opening round. Theire first game is away to Kiladangan on Wednesday 20th June.

Under 12: Both our under 12 teams went down in their opening hurling championship games last Friday against Silvermines. The ‘A’ team lost by two points, 6-8 to 7-3 in a hugely exciting game while the ‘D’ team fell to a defeat. The ‘A’ team took on Borris-Ileigh on Bank Holiday Monday and were defeated 3-10 to 0-6. Both teams are at home to Toomevara next Monday, 11th June, with the ‘D’s out at 6.45pm and the ‘A’s at 7.30pm

Under 6, 8 & 10: The under 6’s & 8’s played blitz games against Borrisokane recently and we thank Borrisokane for the invitation. The under 10’s commenced their development league against Borrisokane last week and were very competitive before losing out in the end.

Tipperary: Best of luck to Patrick Maher, Brian Hogan, Eoin McIntyre, John Madden and the Tipperary senior hurling and minor hurling teams who continue their Munster championship campaigns against Clare next Sunday where they need wins to stay in the hunt and we urge all Tipp supporters from the parish to make a special effort to attend and cheer both teams on.

Cul Camp: This years Kellogg’s Cul Camp in Lorrha takes place from Monday 23rd to Friday 27th July. Registration only online at www.kelloggsculcamps.gaa.ie. Cost is €60 for 1st child; €50 for 2nd child; €40 for 3rd and subsequent children.

Lotto: The jackpot is €4,350 with a Match 3 pot of €100. You can play online at www.locallotto.ie.  The Club wishes to advise that as and from Monday, 4th June, the numbers chosen from in the draw have risen from 30 to 32. Newly designed tickets are now in circulation with all our promoters; all old tickets are now invalid and can be disposed of. Nothing else in the draw changes with same Match 3 (or lucky dips) and promoters prizes. Thank you for your continued support.

Social Dancing: in the GAA Centre on Friday night to the music of Michael Collins. Dancing 9.30pm to 12.30am.
