Long may the lovely weather continue !

St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement.

We had a most enjoyable Bealtaine Day recently as we were entertained by the story of the “Six Mary’s” a one act play performed by Jean Farrell. The narration and singing throughout was excellent.
Members from Carrig and Portumna attended as well as people from the locality. We extend our sincere sympathy to Mary Darcy and family on the death of her beloved husband Jimmy and also sympathy to the family of Dorothy Stanley who dies recently. May they rest in peace.

Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to the Mahon families Lorrha and O’Meara families Rathcabbin and extended family members on the death of Sean Mahon’s daughter  Shirley, which occurred on Sunday May 20th in England just five months after the death of her mother Susan. Burial will take place in London on Saturday next June 2nd. May she rest in peace. Sympathy is also extended to Sandra O’Meara, formerly Ross, Rathcabbin and her daughters and extended family on the death of her husband Laurence Connolly which occurred in England. Burial took place in England on Friday last. May he rest in peace.

Late Mat Reddan.

The peaceful death occurred on Thursday May 17th at The Regional Hospital Tullamore of Mat Reddan, Lorrha.
Mat who was 80 years old was in failing health for some years and had spent a number of weeks in hospital. A well know figure in the locality, he worked with North Tipperary Co. Council for a number of years. He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Mick, Tom, Timmy (Lorrha), Tony (Leitrim), Dan (Aughrim), Mary (Powers Cross, Portumna), Ann (Kiltormer), Alice (Australia), Paddy (England), Joe (Bermingham), Jean (Oxford), Jack (Surray), Liz, Chris, Bill (Luton),sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, neighbours, relatives and friends to whom sympathy is extended.
After funeral Mass in St. Ruadhan’s Church, Lorrha on Sunday 20th  burial took place afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. May he rest in peace.

Late Nancy Carroll.

The peaceful death occurred on Thursday morning May 24th at the Dean Maxwell Home, Roscrea of Nancy Carroll, Derry, Rathcabbin. Nancy who was 91 years of age, was postmistress in Rathcabbin for over 50 years, taking over the business from her late mother. She retired on July 11th 2003 and the post office in the village also closed at that time bringing with it the end of an era. Many neighbours visited her and her brother Mick down through the years. Mick passed away just five weeks ago on April 15th at the age of 89. Sympathy is extended to her cousins, relatives and friends. After funeral Mass in Our Lady Queen of Ireland Church Rathcabbin on Saturday last the 26th. Nancy was laid to rest beside her brother Mick in Pallas Cemetery, Rathcabbin. May they both rest in peace.

Church News.

The First Friday Mass will be in Rathcabbin Church on Friday, 8th June at 8.00p.m. It will also be the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Redwood Castle Open to the Public

Redwood Castle, Lorrha will open to the public from 2 to 6 pm between July 16th and September 5th for summer 2018  This beautifully restored 13th century Norman tower house is owned and run by a lady named Coleesa Egan.
Upon arrival visitors will be warmly welcomed by a local guide and receive a talk on the history of the castle from when it was built right up to the present era. Tours also include climbing the spiral stairs to the banquet rooms and bedchambers, reflecting in our oratory, viewing old photos of the castle and enjoying views of the surrounding country side from the roof top terrace. Tours last approximately one hour and visitors must be well mobile to climb the steps of the spiral stairs.

Items of clothing must be clean and dry and in good condition please and we can supply bags if you want. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows, cushions, carpets, rugs and mats including bath toilet and shower mats soiled or wet clothing but good quality unwanted clothing for re-use (not recycling). All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village. Are You Ready for a Challenge?

Ireland’s Fittest Family is back and they are looking for families from Tipperary to take part. Have you and your family got what it takes to win? Now in it’s sixth series, this year we’ll see the competition more competitive than ever before. So expect more heartbreak, joy, grunting, shouting, panting and general breathlessness. They are searching the country to find the fittest, fastest, strongest families to enter Ireland’s most extreme fitness competition. The winning family will get a €15,000 cash prize and be crowned Ireland’s Fittest Family 2018.  The minimum age is 14 years old on July 2018. Each family must be comprised of four immediate members, such as grandparents, parents, children or step-children. The series will be shot from July to September 2018. GAA News

Senior: Lorrha’s next game in the County League is away to Kilruane MacDonaghs on the weekend of 10th June.

Junior: The juniors opening championship game against Newport did not take place last Friday and has been rescheduled for this Friday, 1st June in Newport at 7.30pm

Under 12: The Under 12’s begin their hurling championship this Friday against Silvermines with the first team playing in the ‘A’ championship at 6.45pm with the second team playing in the ‘D’ competition at 7.30pm.

Under 6 & 8: The 6 week Under 6/8 Movement and Coordination Course finished recently.

Lotto & Tipperary Draw Package: Well done to John Maher who won €200 in the first Tipperary GAA Clubs Draw held last Friday. A good start to the year. Thank you to all those who subscribed to the draw with the club as we increased our numbers by almost 25% to over 200. Thanks also for the promoters for going out and getting in new members. Best of luck to all in the draws over the next eleven months.

Tipperary: Best of luck to Patrick Maher, Brian Hogan, Eoin McIntyre, John Madden and the Tipperary senior hurling and minor hurling teams who continue their Munster championship campaigns against Waterford next weekend.

Cul Camp: This years Kellogg’s Cul Camp in Lorrha takes place from Monday 23rd to Friday 27th July. Registration only online at www.kelloggsculcamps.gaa.ie. Cost is €60 for 1st child; €50 for 2nd child; €40 for 3rd and subsequent children.

Lotto: The jackpot is €4,200 with a Match 3 pot of €140. You can play online at www.locallotto.ie.  The Club wish to advise that as and from the lotto draw of next Monday, 4th June, the numbers chosen from in the draw will rise from 30 to 32. Newly designed tickets are now in circulation with all our promoters; all old tickets are now invalid and can be disposed of. Nothing else in the draw changes with same Match 3 (or lucky dips) and promoters prizes. Thank you for your continued support.
