2018 Lorrha Dorrha Calendar.

The 2018 edition of the Lorrha Dorrha calendar is still widely available and can be purchased throughout the parish in Pat Hough’s, Friars Tavern, Colette’s hair Salon and Sceal Shop, Ferry Service Station, Ferry Inn, Flynn’s Carrigahorig, Brophy’s Rathcabbin, Buckley’s Super Valu Birr,  O’Meara’s Super Value, Lorraine’s hair Salon, Boathouse and Salmons Newsagents Portumna and in Heenan’s Borrisokane. This is a lovely keepsake as well as a great present for anyone but especially for those living away from home. Proceeds from the sale goes back into Lorrha village. Please support. Busy at Rehearsals.

Rathcabbin Players are busy rehearsing for their forthcoming 3 act comedy ‘Nobody’s Talking to Me’ written by Tommy Marren and produced by Marian Frawley. The play will be staged in Rathcabbin Hall for six nights in total, four nights the first week-end from Thursday night January 25th to Sunday night 28th and for two nights the following week-end Saturday night February 3rd and Sunday night February 4th.  Please note change in dates. Easter 2018 Pilgrimage.

Padre Pio Easter  pilgrimage to San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy for four nights flying out from Dublin. Visiting the Shrine of St. Philomena, then onto the church where Padre Pio celebrated his first Mass as a newly ordained priest. The Pilgrimage will also visit his birth place in Pietrelcina,his family home and the church of St. Anna where he was baptized and received his First Holy Communion. In the Capuchin Friary and the cell where St. Pio lived and died. Before returning home, the Pilgrimage will also visit Monte Sant’Angelo, the shrine in the cave where the Archangel Michael appeared in the fifth century along with visiting St. Matthew’s monastery in San Marco in Lamis.

Items of clothing must be clean and dry and in good condition please and we can supply bags if you want. We can also collect to make it easy for you, just call (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (087) 2601413 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows, cushions, carpets, rugs and mats including bath toilet and shower mats soiled or wet clothing but good quality unwanted clothing for re-use (not recycling). All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village. Lorrha GAA News for 30 December

AGM: The Annual General Meeting of Lorrha GAA Club took place on Tuesday 19th December last in the GAA Centre in front of a large attendance. Secretary Michael Kennedy and Treasurer Declan O’Meara provided detailed reports of the year with the Under 21’s North success and the Junior ‘B’ League successes the highlight. The club continues to be run prudently financially but more support is needed for all areas of fundraising from lotto, Tipp Draw and once off draws with the 2500to1 draw not as successful as it could have been. There was particular praise for the social committee and their Friday night dancing which generated increased funds.
Chairman Padraig Madden thanked everyone who played a part in running the club over the past year, be it officers, players and mentors and wished everyone the best, before stepping down as chairman, succeeded by William Harding. Declan O’Meara also stepped down as treasurer after six years with Graham Houlihan taking up this role. Phil McIntyre was elected as a vice-president following the passing of Sean ‘Johnny’ O’Meara during the year.

2018 Officers: President – Michael O’Meara (The Hill); Vice-Presidents – Fr Pat Mulcahy, Phil McIntyre; Chairman – William Harding; Vice-Chairpersons – Pat Kennedy, David Broderick; Seretary – Michael Kennedy; Treasurer – Graham Houlihan; Assistant Treasurer & Registrar – Louise Mannion; PRO – Shane Brophy; Players Representatives – Paddy Reddin & Ronan King; Coaching Officer – John Paul Houlihan; Development Officer – Tommy Cahalan; Health & Wellbeing Officer – Michael O’Carroll; Cultural Officer – Barry Moran. The roles of Children’s Officer and Child Protection Officer will be confirmed at the first executive committee in the New Year, as per rule.

Assistant Secretary, County Board Delegate and Schools Liaison Officer positions will be confirmed at the Adjourned AGM which is fixed for Tuesday 9th January 2018 at 8.00pm.
Also at the AGM, Mark Dunne was ratified as senior hurling manager for 2018. The managements of the junior, under 21 and minor teams will be confirmed at the Adjourned AGM.

Auction: Our annual Auction has been fixed for Sunday 4th February.

Lotto: Our jackpot is €4,500 with a Match 3 pot of €100. You can play online at www.locallotto.ie.

Social Dancing: continues on Friday 29th December with music of Declan Aungier, from 9.30pm til late.

New Years Eve Cabaret: Rory in Cabaret at Lorrha GAA Complex on New Years Eve. Country and Irish music song and dance. Doors open at 8.30pm; spots prizes on door. Tickets €5.
