Commiserations to Tipp senior hurlers who lost their Munster quarter final to Cork on Sunday last and to our three parish men, Bonner Maher, Brian Hogan and selector John Madden.
Congratulations is extended to Leanne Sullivan Redwood, who won the Galway City Championships in mean grad last weekend. She now moves up to open mean. Leanne is a student of the Stephanie Power school of Irish Dance Portumna. Well done Leanne.
Bealtaine Festival in Lorrha.
As part of the Bealtaine Festival events in Tipperary, St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement Association is hosting ‘Old Flames’ this Wednesday, 24th May commencing at 2.30pm in St. Ruadhan’s Community Hall, Lorrha. Old Flames blends the stories of writer Brian Leyden with music by the multi instrumentalist Seamie O’Dowd. Admission is free and open to all ages. Refreshments will be served.
Ploughing Raffle Results.
The North Tipperary Ploughing committee extend every good wish to founder member Dinny Duffy, Birr and formerly Rathcabbin on his retirement after 52 years of sterling service, all on a voluntary basis, to the North Tipp Ploughing and to the National Executive. Church News
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament every Thursday from 10.00am to 8.00pm in Rathcabbin Church. We invite all parishioners to come and stay a while in the presence of Jesus.
Recent Wedding.
Congratulations is extended to Sharon Slevin, Kilregane, Lorrha and Thomas Coleman, Belmont who celebrated their wedding on the 17th of March in St Ruadhan’s Church Lorrha. Fr. Pat Mulcahy P.P. officiated. Sharon and Thomas chose the lovely waterfall and surrounds in Carrigahorig to have their photographs taken before joining their families and friends for their reception which was held in the County Arms Hotel, Birr. We wish Sharon and Thomas many good wishes and all the best in the future.
News From Lorrha School.
Congratulations to our 3rd class pupil Emma Kennedy who won three medals at the Templemore Athletics which was held recently. Emma won a Gold medal in Sprint, Silver in the Long Jump and Bronze in Javelin. Well done Emma. We also extend congratulations to our Confirmation class Amy, Alannah, Lisa, Sarah, Lochlann, Riain, Aaron, Chloe, Sheena who were confirmed recently in Our Lady Queen of Ireland Church Rathcabbin. We wish them well in the future.
May Devotions.
The annual May devotions to Our Lady of Clonfert continues throughout the month of May with Mass each evening at 8.00p.m. except on Sunday’s when it will be at 9.30 am with Rosary and Benediction at 7.00p.m. Mass will also be celebrated each Friday at 12 noon where all nursing homes, schools and groups are invited to attend. A work evening will be held in St Ruadhans Church of Ireland graveyard on Tuesday 30th May at 7.00 pm. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When cleaning out your wardrobe to make room for the summer collection, please remember Lorrha Development/Tidy Towns who continue to collect unwanted clothes throughout the year. Items of clothing must be clean and dry and in good condition please and we can supply bags if you want. We can also collect to make it easy for you, just call (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (087) 2601413 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows, cushions, carpets, rugs and maths including bath toilet and shower math’s, soiled or wet clothing but good quality unwanted clothing for re-use (not recycling). All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep one adult employed. Many thanks for your continued support.
Tidy Towns.
Many thanks to those who turned out last week for the clean up of Lorrha village. Tidy Towns judging commences on June 1st. and much work needs doing. Lorrha has a high standard of marks built up through the years and with so many visitors coming to the village, it is important to the village to build on those marks going forward. Can you help to do some cleaning, sweeping, painting, planting, weeding etc.? Adopt a flower bed, remove litter or kerb weeds. Can you contribute just a little time? You don’t have to live in the village or even the approach roads to be involved. Free gloves and black bags are available. Please contact any member of Lorrha Development if you can help.
Memorial Walk.
Milford Hospice 5KM Walk will take place on Sunday 28th May, starting at University of Limerick Sports Arena. Their annual festival kicks off Wednesday, May 24th and runs until June 5th! This year’s programme is an eclectic mix of Music, Drama, Street art, Visual Art and Workshops. There’s something for everyone. Full details and tickets under http://www.mountshannonarts.net.
HIGHLIGHTS include:
- Street Art in the form of murals, sculptures and installations;
- Drama with Mikel Murfi’s ‘Man in the Womans Shoes’, a new version of Siobhan Donnellans ‘Going Spare’, and Ruti Lachs with ‘Sideways on Planet Piano’;
- Saint Sister are the headline act in terms of music, Upcoming band Pine the Pilcrow and the wonderful Crash Ensemble
- Visual Art including paintings, drawings, photographs, papercuts and video will be on display in five venues, including Scariff library and four venues in Mountshannon.
- They will also have workshops for young and old including handbells, The Expressive voice and Creative writing for women.
- The Green Fair with stalls, live music, hot food, and fun for all the family takes place on Sunday 4th June in The Aistear.
GAA News
Senior: The second round of the County Championship takes place this weekend but Lorrha have a bye as Holycross face Knockavilla Kickhams in our group. Our game with Knockavilla will either be on weekend 11th or 18th June. Lorrha’s next game is likely to be a home league game against Ballina.
Junior: The Junior hurlers enjoyed an emphatic 7-19 to 3-10 win over Roscrea in Moatfield last Friday. Lorrha are through to the league semi-final with one game to spare, away to Burgess in Kilcolman this Friday 26th May at 7.30pm.
Celtic Challenge: Well done to Daniel O’Donoghue who started at midfield for the Tipperary North-Mid Under 17 team who beat Laois in the Celtic Challenge last Wednesday. This Saturday, they play Galway MacDonagh in Nenagh at 2.30pm.
Under 12: The Hurling Championship will begin on Friday 2nd June.
Under 14: Hurling Championship begins on Wednesday 7th June.
Tipperary: Hard to Patrick Maher, Brian Hogan, John Madden and the Tipperary senior hurling team in their Munster Championship quarter final against Cork this Sunday.
Tipperary GAA Clubs Draw: The 2017/2018 Tipperary Draw begins on Friday, 2ndJune with 12 monthly draws for a prize fund of €500,000. In 2016/2017, 120 people joined the Draw from the club and we are very grateful for your support. This yielded over €6000 for the club as €50 from every entry into the draw comes back to Lorrha GAA. The draw saw €1200 in prizes coming back to three lucky winners. All existing draw members have been issued with their receipts and forms to rejoin. To those that are interested in joining for the first time, the draw costs €100 per year with excellent prizes. We are looking to increase our membership for the coming year and we would ask you to consider strongly the opportunity of joining the draw.
The success of the Tipperary GAA Clubs Draw over the past 30 years has helped provide the facilities and the equipment for all our players to develop their skills and give you, our supporters great enjoyment week in week out. Cul Camp: This years Lorrha Kellogg’s Cul Camp takes place in Moatfield from Monday 24th to Friday 28th July from 10am to 2.30pm each day. Camp is open for 6-13 year olds, to register, go to www.kelloggsculcamps.gaa.ie and find the Lorrha camp in the Tipperary listing. The camp costs €60 for one child, €50 for a second and €40 for a third or more children and they will be provided with full camp kit.
