News From Lorrha School

Prior to Easter we held our annual Open Day in the school which was very well attended. Our thanks to both parents and pupils for their co-operation.
On Ash Wednesday we attended the lay led liturgy in the church which was also attended by adults. The Diocesan Advisor Sr. Essie visited our school recently as part of the pupils preparation for the sacraments and offered guidance to teachers on the new religious programme “Grow in Love”.
Bishop Fintan Monahan visited us also in recent weeks in preparation for Confirmation which takes place on Sunday May 14th. It was a wonderful occasion for all pupils and staff to meet with Bishop Fintan which was thoroughly enjoyed. Visit the school web site www.lorrhans.ie to view photographs of his visit.
1st, 2nd & 3rd classes attended indoor ground hurling blitz in Nenagh and our senior class attended a hurling blitz which was held in Toomevara in early April.
Congratulations to 4th class pupil Conor Kennedy who recently won the wall ball competition representing Lorrha GAA juvenile club. Conor beat a total of twenty participants to win the competition which took place in O’Toole Park, Dublin. Well done Conor.
3rd – 6th classes attended Portumna Workhouse where they were given a tour and presentation on workhouses which was very interesting.
Kieran Galvin has commenced our annual tennis lessons which will continue for the next five weeks. These lessons prove to be very popular with the pupils.
Our thanks to members of Borrisokane fire Brigade who visited the school recently where they spoke to pupils from 3rd – 6th.

Make-Up Fundraiser.

A night for all age groups Make-Up masterclass with Lauren Cleare and Lucy Fitzmakeup will take place in Banagher College on Friday May 5th at 8:00pm. Doors open at 7.30pm. Spot prizes, raffle and goodie bag. Tickets €15 are on sale from the school. Contact our fb page – BCCNS Masterclass for further info and ticket enquiries. Please note that all proceeds are in aid of the school Lourdes fund. Tickets available in Banagher College and local shops.

Annual Walk.

The annual Darkness into Light walk is taking place on Saturday May 6th at 4:15 from Banagher College in aid of Pieta House. Adults €25 students, oaps and jobseekers €15, u16s free. Please support this worthy cause.

New Arrival.

Congratulations is extended to Josefa and Peter Seman Rathcabbin on the birth of their daughter Petra recently.  A little sister for Patrick, Oliver and Lenka. Well done to all.

Church News.

Mass for the First Friday May 5th will be celebrated in Lorrha Church at 9.30a.m. and Rathcabbin Church at 8.00p.m. The Mass in Rathcabbin Church will be the Mass of preparation for children who will receive the sacrament of Communion for Life in 2017.
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament every Thursday from 10.00am to 8.00pm in  Rathcabbin  Church. We invite all parishioners to come and stay a while in the presence of Jesus.

May Devotions to Our Lady of Clonfert.

The annual May devotions to Our Lady of Clonfert commenced on Monday May 1st with Mass each evening at 8.00p.m. except on Sunday’s  when it will be at 9.30 am with Rosary and Benediction at 7.00p.m. Mass will also be celebrated each Friday at 12 noon where all nursing homes, schools and groups are invited to attend. Volunteers Required.

Volunteers are invited to give some time around Lorrha village to do sweeping, cleaning, weeding, painting etc. This can be done at a time of your own choosing. Lorrha Development will not be setting any specific work evenings this summer so any help you can give will be appreciated. Contact any member of the Development committee.

Lorrha Camogie:

Our Junior camogie team have made it to the county league final against Ballina in the camogie pitch The Ragg on Saturday May 13th at 2.30pm.  Best of luck to players and management, all support on the day greatly appreciated.

Summer De-Clutter.
When cleaning out your wardrobe to make room for the summer collection, please remember Lorrha Development/Tidy Towns who continue to collect unwanted clothes throughout the year. Items of clothing must be clean and dry and in good condition please and we can supply bags if you want. We can also collect to make it easy for you, just call (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (087) 2601413 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows, cushions, carpets, rugs and maths including bath toilet and shower math’s, soiled or wet clothing. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep two adults employed. Many thanks for your continued support.

Memorial Walk.

The Milford Hospice 5KM Memorial Walk will take place on Sunday, May 28th at the University of Limerick with a start time of 12 noon. This event is suitable for those of all levels of fitness and ability and the centre’s organisers are asking anyone who wishes to take part to register for the event as soon as possible, there is no entry fee, but the organizers are encouraging people to seek sponsorship for the lunchtime walk or else to make a donation. The walk will commence at University of Limerick Sports Arena and will finish on the grounds of Milford Care Centre.  Participants will have the opportunity to place a handwritten on colourful ribbon that will adorn a special memorial tree, on the grounds of Milford. A special Memorial Pin will also be presented to each participant.  Refreshments will also be available after this memorial occasion. It’s necessary for everyone to register on www.eventmaster.ie , alternatively registration and sponsorship cards can be arranged by contacting the Fundraising Department at 061 485859, between 9am & 5pm, Monday to Friday; by email to fundraisind@milfordcarecentre.ie. Gaa News

Senior: .  On Sunday 7th May, Lorrha face Templederry in the first round of the North Senior Championship in Nenagh at 2pm

Junior: The Junior hurlers have six points from six from their first three games. Lorrha have two games remaining against Roscrea and Burgess

Minor: Lorrha Rovers Gaels hurlers played Nenagh Eire Og in round 2 in Nenagh last Thursday and suffered a heavy defeat, 4-24 to 2-8. Their campaign will resume after the leaving cert.

The footballers Minor ‘B’ Championship match against Silvermines due to have been played yesterday (Tuesday) was postponed and will be refixed in the next two weeks.

Tipp Draw: We thank all those who joined the 2016/2017 draw which has come to an end and the promoters who do such a great job with the draw. We will be promoting the 2017/2018 draw in the coming weeks.
Blood Drive: Blood Donation Clinic returns to Moatfield on Tuesday 9th May from 3-5pm and 7-9.30pm.
