Author of ‘Portumna, A Galway Parish by the Shannon’ John Joe Conwell is pictured here on left, with the Muldoon family during the launch of his book on Wednesday night April 5th.  Special guest Connacht Rugby Captain and past pupil of Portumna Community school John Muldoon launched the book. Also in the photo is  John Muldoon (Snr) and Jim Muldoon.  The book is an extensive account of the history of the town and its surrounds.  

Easter Egg Hunt.

There will be an Easter egg hunt in Lorrha on Easter Sunday April 16th from 3.00p.m. Gather outside the church gate, and go hunting for eggs without any charge. This has always been a popular event in the village with the young and the not so young. There will be loads of chocolate eggs to be found and plenty of surprises too, so come along and join in the hunt. All welcome.

Enrolment.

Scoil Lua Naofa Lorrha are enrolling for September 2017. If you would like to call to the school talk to the teachers or to collect an Application form please phone (090) 9747295. We will also post out an form to you when you leave your name and postal address or email luanaofa@eircom.net. Application forms can be also be downloaded from the school web site www.lorrhans.ie. Bus service available on selected routes.

Spy Wednesday 12th April, Mass will be celebrated in Lorrha Church at 7.30p.m.
Holy Thursday 13th, Mass of the  Lord’s  Supper in Lorrha Church at 8.00p.m>
Good Friday 14th  a day of fast and abstinence. 11.00a.m.  Stations of the Cross for primary school children (and teenagers) in  Rathcabbin Church. 3.00p.m. Liturgy of the Passion and Death of Christ in Rathcabbin Church. 8.00p.m. Prayer around the Cross in Lorrha Church.                                              Holy Saturday 15th  8.00p.m. Easter Vigil in Lorrha Church.
Easter Sunday 16th  11.30a.m. Mass in Rathcabbin Church.
Eucharistic Adoration National Pilgrimage to Knock will take place on Sunday, April 30th.
The Chrism Mass for the Diocese will be celebrated by Bishop Fintan on Wednesday evening, April 12th  in the Cathedral Ennis.  The time of the Mass will be 7.30 pm. People are warmly invited and it is a night to acknowledge our unity as a Diocese when we gather with our Bishop to celebrate the work of priests and people and to recommit to Eucharist and to ministry with God’s people.

C.O.I.

The Easter Vigil Service in St Ruadhans Church of Ireland will take place on Saturday night at 9.00 pm with Bishop Kenneth Kearon. All are welcome. There will be no Service in Lorrha on Easter Sunday.

Lorrha Camogie:

Best of luck to the Junior players in the county league semi-final. Training continues in preparation for same in Moatefield on Wednesday at 8pm and Fri at 7.15pm.

Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to Tina Young and family, Rathcabbin on the death of her father Kieran Horan, Castle St. Birr which occurred on April 2nd.  After funeral Mass in St. Brendan’s Church Birr on Wednesday 5th burial took place in Clonoghill cemetery. May he rest in peace.

Spring De-Clutter.

When cleaning out your wardrobe to make room for the spring collection, please remember Lorrha Development/Tidy Towns who continue to collect unwanted clothes throughout the year. Items of clothing must be clean and dry and in good condition please and we can supply bags if you want. We can also collect to make it easy for you, just call (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (087) 2601413 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows, cushions, carpets, rugs and maths including bath toilet and shower math’s, soiled or wet clothing. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep two adults employed. Many thanks for your continued support.

Bramble Art Exhibition

Portumna library is hosting a children’s art exhibition of creations by the students of Ute Duggan “Bramble Art” from April 8th – 22nd. All welcome to go along and view the work on display.
