Well Don Kevin.

Congratulations is extended to Kevin Cahalan, son of Tommy and Anne Marie,  who was successful at trials recently and picked to go forward in the upcoming season where he will represent Lorrha GAA club on the Under 14 Tipperary football team. Impressed by his North performance, the selectors picked Kevin who had captained the North Division team over their eight week match and training period. Well done Kevin and all the best in the future. Kevin is pictured here with John McGrath, Brian Hogan and George Hannigan when they presented medals to the U12 and U14 teams recently in the clubhouse. 

North Tipp Ploughing Championships.

The North Tipperary Ploughing Championships will take place on Sunday March 5th  at 12.30pm. on the lands of Joe and Lillian Austin, Borrisokane, by kind permission. The site is situated close to the COI hall on the Ballingarry road. Entries must reach the secretary Denis Cahalan on (087) 779 3719 on or before Friday March 3rd. please.

Birthday Greetings.

Congratulations is extended to Nancy Carroll, Rathcabbin on the occasion of her 90th birthday last week-end. Nancy celebrated the wonderful occasion with neighbours and relatives on Saturday last. Well done Nancy and many happy returns.

Church News.

Volunteer as a Facilitator with Accord Catholic Marriage care service. Day Out.

The active retirement group are holding a day out with dinner in The Thatch in Ballycommon this coming Sunday 26th February at 1.00pm. Transport will be available from the Lorrha village. Non members welcome. For further information contact Nancy on (0870 7613458.

Reminder.

Tipperary Co.Co. have plans to re-surface the Abbeyville road out of Lorrha village and as far as the Lorrha sign, in 2018. Lorrha Development/Tidy Towns have been invited by the Council to have an input into enhancing a section of the roadway, specifically the area where the road widens at the bend opposite the COI graveyard. At present there is a flower bed there. Lorrha Development/Tidy Towns would welcome suggestions from the public as to how this area might be improved/ developed. Suggestion boxes are placed in The Shop, Pat Hough’s Pub, Friars Tavern and the Ferry Service Station and will be there until the 8th March. Anyone with ideas is welcome to make a suggestion on or before that date. Anonymous suggestions will not be considered.

Spring De-Clutter.

When cleaning out your wardrobe to make room for the spring collection, please remember Lorrha Development/Tidy Towns who continue to collect unwanted clothes throughout the year. Items of clothing must be clean and dry and in good condition please and we can supply bags if you want. We can also collect to make it easy for you, just call (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (087) 2601413 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows, cushions, carpets, rugs and maths including bath toilet and shower math’s, soiled or wet clothing. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep two adults employed. Many thanks for your continued support.

Lough Boora  Running Group ‘Fools Day Run’.

The 5th Annual 5k/10k Lough Boora Fools Run with Will Faulkiner of Midlands 103  will take place on Saturday 1st April 2017 ‘fools day’, at 11am. The organising committee would like to thank the main sponsors of the event, Bord Na Mona and Ferbane Total Healthcare Pharmacy. The charities to benefit will be Irish Autism Action, Offaly School of Special Education Tullamore, LOFFA,  The Samaritans, Athlone. The run has been very successful over the past four years with growing support each year and has raised a lot of money for charity. The 10k race is chip time with entry €20. The 5k jog/walk is non chipped with entry €10. Family entry €30. You can register online with www.myrunresults.ie Registration on the day at Teach Lea from 9:30am. There will be face painters and cartoon characters on the day. Refreshments will be provided after the run at Teach Lea. GAA News

Senior: Lorrha will play JK Brackens in Templemore in the first round of the County League Division 2B on Sunday 12th March at 12 noon. On Sunday 26th March, Lorrha will be home to Burgess before having subsequent games v Roscrea (away) and home to both Ballina and Holycross/Ballycahill.

Junior: Lorrha will contest group 2 of the North Junior ‘B’ Hurling League with Moneygall, Shannon Rovers, Roscrea, Burgess and Ballinahinch.
Under 21: Hard luck to the U21 footballers who lost 0-8 to 0-4 to Silvermines in the North ‘B’ football semi-final in Moatfield on Saturday. The draw was made for the U21 ‘B’ Hurling Championship last week and Lorrha have been grouped with Borrisokane, Shannon Rovers Gaels and Silvermines with the top two teams progressing to the semi-finals.

Minor: Lorrha Rovers Gaels will face Roscrea at home in the first round of the Minor ‘A’ Hurling Championship, following the leaving cert exams. The championship will be on a round-robin basis with games against Nenagh, Kilruane, Silvermines, Toomevara and Kiladangan with the top four teams progressing to the semi-finals.

The Minor ‘B’ Football Championship was redrawn and Lorrha Rovers Gaels are now in with Kiladangan, Silvermines and Moneygall/Clonakenny with the first round on the weekend of 18 March.

Under 16: Lorrha Rovers Gaels begin their North ‘A’ Football campaign against Nenagh Eire Og in Nenagh on Saturday 25th February at 3pm.

Under 6 & 8: Training will start in the GAA Centre on Wednesday 22nd February at 6.00pm. Runners and helmets must be worn; all are welcome

Membership: for 2017 is now due. €90 – Adult player; €50 – Minor/College student; €30 – Non-playing Adult (+€70 extra for gym membership); €20 – Juvenile (16 and under); €90 – Family (2 adults and 2 children, capped at €100 for three or more children).

Closing date for membership for all adult and juvenile players is the last day of February to be insured in training and games while the closing date for all membership is 31st March. It is important to remember that our total number of adult members by 31st March is the number the County Board will use towards our ticket allocations for Tipperary games so it is in your interest to have membership paid by then. Membership can be paid to club registrar Louise Mannion or can also be done online at www.locallotto.ie. Members can also log onto www.grma.gaa.ie to get their new GAA Rewards card.
