The Liam McCarthy and Munster cup visit Lorrha School.

Brother and sister, Frank Larkin and Ann Coughlan were delighted to hold the Munster cup when it visited the parish on Tuesday 27th

 

Late Julie Anne Sullivan.

The peaceful death occurred on Wednesday September 21st  at her residence at Redwood, Lorrha of Judy Sullivan. Nee Ryan from Birr, she was in her 81st year.
Predeceased by her husband Larry, son Stephan, granddaughter Tara and by her twin sister Norah Byrne, she is survived by her daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, neighbours and friends.
After funeral Mass in the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer, Redwood, on Friday 23rd. Burial took place in Bonaham cemetery, Rathcabbin. May she rest in peace.

Church News.

Please note that the Rosary will be recited before Mass during the month of October. We offer congratulations to our new Bishop, Fintan Monaghan who was ordained in Ennis on Sunday last. We wish him well in the years ahead. A day for sacristans will take place in St. Ruadhan’s Church, Lorrha on Saturday October 8th from 10.30am to 3.00p.m. For details send a S.A.E. to Fr. Isla Grant Concert.

First Aid at Redwood NS

A certified first aid course including CPR and AED will be held in Redwood NS on Wednesday, 12th October at 7p.m. The course costs €35 per person and will be certified for 2 years. Booking essential on 090 9747186 or redwoodns@live.ie.

Congratulations is extended to the Lorrha/Rovers under 14 ‘B’ team who beat Boherlahan/Dualla 1.10 to 1.2 in the County final recently. Well done to all concerned.

Commiserations.

Hard luck to the U16 hurlers who lost the North Final on Sunday last. Commiserations also to the Junior camogie girls who lost their semi-final bid to a stronger Boherlahan on Saturday last.

Harvest Thanksgiving.

The annual Harvest Thanksgiving will take place in St. Ruadhan’s C.O.I. on Sunday October 2nd at 8pm. All are invited. Refreshments will be served in the hall afterwards.

North Tipperary Ploughing committee wish to thank everyone who competed in the All-Ireland championships in Tullamore. We congratulate Joe Slattery who won bronze in the Intermediate reversible class. Well done too and congratulations to Offaly member Laura Grant, on winning Queen of the Plough. Laura has always participated at our annual N.T.P. championships. A great achievement Laura and well done. We extend the very best of luck to our own Ethan Harding when he represents the Republic of Ireland when he competes in the vintage hydrolic class in the Six Nations which takes place in Ballon, Co. Carlow on Sunday October 2nd. The Six Nations consist of Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, England, Scotland and Wales. Ethan deserves as much support as possible, therefore we would appreciate if you could go along to Ballon on Sunday and show support for him. Good luck Ethan.

Badminton.

Lorrha badminton club have recommenced training at 8 o’clock in the GAA complex on Tuesday night. Anybody interested in playing a bit of badminton are more than welcome . It’s a great way to get fit  so come on over and give it try.

Lorrha Camogie:

Lorrha Juniors lost out to a stronger Boherlahan side in the County Semi-Final on Saturday on  a scoreline of 1-6 to 1-13. We are now out of the competition but we had a very successful and positive year in our club and have many people to thank for their support and commitment.

We would like to thank our Chairperson Bernie Cleary for taking on the role at the start of the year and keeping our club together.  We would like to thank Jimmy Dunne and Colm Duggan for training and managing us and putting in so much time and commitment and leading us to a County League title. We would like to thank David Broderick for his commitment as our physio for the year. Thank you also to all those who helped out on the line on match days.

Success for Leanne

Congratulations to Leanne Sullivan from Redwood who won  the Connemara under 9 years Irish dancing championships which were held on Saturday last. A student with “Stephanie Power School of Irish Dance”, out of the first four dances, Leanne won three and secured a second place in the fourth. Well done Leanne.

Autumn De-Clutter.
When cleaning out your wardrobe to make room for the autumn collection, please remember Lorrha Development/Tidy Towns who continue to collect unwanted clothes throughout the year. Items of clothing must be clean and dry and in good condition please and we can supply bags if you want. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows, cushions, carpets, rugs and maths including bath toilet and shower math’s, soiled or wet clothing. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep two adults employed. Many thanks for your continued support.

GAA News

Under 21: All Under 21 players are asked to attend training with the juniors as the championship will get underway in the coming weeks. We are drawn in a group with Portroe, Borrisokane and Ballinahinch/Templederry.

Under 16: Lorrha Rovers Gaels defeated Roscrea in the North ‘A’ semi-final replay which took place on Monday week last in Borrisokane, 0-17 to 2-8. The final against Toomevara was played last Saturday in Nenagh and despite leading for long stages they were caught at the end and beaten 0-18 to 1-14. Hard luck to the players and mentors on what was a lengthy and exciting campaign

Liam MacCarthy Cup visits Lorrha: The Liam MacCarthy Cup visited the parish on Tuesday with Patrick Maher, Brian Hogan and John Madden bringing the All Ireland trophy to Lorrha, Redwood and Rathcabbin National Schools, as well as Killeen NS, where Brian Hogan went to school. It also paid a visit to St Kieran’s Nursing Home while later in the evening at the Clubhouse, all our juvenile players were able to get their hands on the trophy before a special event later in the night. More next week.
