Pakie O Brien, the Pike, Rathcabbin on the occasion of his 80th birthday, received a special presentation from Paddy Boylan, Secretary of the National Loy Association in recognition of his significant contribution to the ancient skill of loy digging, both as a multiple All Ireland Champion and as a trainer and mentor to younger competitors in North Tipperary. Well done, Pakie.
Rathcabbin First Responders (R.F.R.)
Ladies, please join us in the VHI women’s mini marathon on Monday June 6th to raise funds for the Rathcabbin First Responders and the Mark Heffernan Trust and thanks for their donation of a defibrillator and wall cabinet now located at Walshpark Cross. Recent Wedding.
Congratulations is extended to Roy Gill, Ross House, Rathcabbin and Claire Donaldson, Finnoe, Borrisokane who were married on the 23rd October 2015 in Borrisokane Church. We wish them both all the best for the future.
Pieta House Fundraiser.
The Darkness into Light 5km walk/run will take place in Banagher this year on Saturday 7th May in aid of Pieta House, the centre for the prevention of suicide and self harm. The event will begin at 4:15 am from Banagher College and participants will cross the line as dawn is breaking. Please come out and lend your support to this uplifting and inspirational event.
Sympathy.
Sympathy is extended to the family and relatives of the late Thomás (Moss) Murray, Wickow Town, and late of Lordspark, Rathcabbin who died recently. May he rest in peace.
Census 2016 – Make Your Mark.
Census night is Sunday 24th April. The enumerator is presently calling to houses in Lorrha and Aglish so you can expect her to visit over the next four weeks. Your co-operation in Census 2016 is much appreciated and remember its quick, its compulsory and its confidential.
Q.R. Code Launch.
The Martin O’Meara memorial which was erected in Lorrha village in 2013 by Lorrha Development Association has a new Q.R. code attached to it in recent weeks.
People can scan the code with their iphone or tablet and follow the story of Martin’s life. Lorrha Development Association invite everyone to the unveiling of the QR code on Friday evening April 15th at 7.10pm at the memorial and prior to Mass at 7.30pm in Friars Park to celebrate the Feast of St. Ruadhan.
Children’s Art Exhibition.
Portumna Library is hosting a children’s art exhibition of creations by the students of Ute Duggan “Bramble Art” from April 2nd – 16th, opening on Saturday 2nd at 3pm. All welcome.

A talk on ‘Mental Health & Well being’ will take place in Redwood NS on Wednesday, 6th April at 7.30p.m and on ‘Anti-bullying and Cyber-bullying’ which will take place on Wednesday, 10th May at 7.30p.m. Both courses are free of charge and are being led by the NPC (National Parents Council) All are welcome to attend. Redwood NS Annual Fundraiser
We are holding our annual buffet dance in the GAA Clubhouse on Saturday, 9th April at 9.30pm. Music by Pat & Richie. Raffle for hamper and spot prizes Tickets are now being sold by the parents and will also be available on the night. All support much appreciated.
Lorrha Apostolic Society.
The Lorrha Apostolic Society group will hold their annual display on Sunday April 10th in Lorrha Community Hall from 2pm to 6pm. All the work which was carried out by the group over the last twelve months will be on display. All are invited to come and view this work before it’s dispatched to the missions and the group will also be serving refreshments to which all are invited. Everyone welcome.
Spring De-Clutter.
Thinking of clearing out the wardrobe to make room for the Spring collection? Lorrha Development/ Tidy Towns continue with unused clothes collection throughout the Winter months. De-clutter your wardrobe, attack your attic, recycle all unwanted/unused items of clothing to make room for your Spring collection. We will accept any kind of bag or in bags provided by the committee. We can collect your unwanted items. Just call or text (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (086) 8355405 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows and cushions, carpets, rugs and mats (including bath, shower and toilet mats), soiled or wet clothing. We appreciate your support. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep two adults employed.
Family Fun Walk / Run.
A family fun 5k walk / run will take place on Sunday April 10th in Kinnitty Castle at 2pm. Registration for runners from 1 to 1.30pm with a fee of €12. 1st and 2nd place trophies for runners. Refreshments afterwards in Kinnitty Castle. Donations accepted on the day. All proceeds in aid of St. James Hospital Foundation targeting Brain Disease.
