Results From Kids Christmas Disco.

The total amount raised from the kids Christmas disco which took place in the GAA clubhouse and was run in aid of Cystic Fibrosis Ireland was €810. Organiser’s Martina and Natasha Delaney (Rathcabbin) wish to thank all that came on the night to support this worthy cause. It was an a very enjoyable night and all who attended had a good time. We want to say a huge thank you to DJ Ray Kennedy for doing the disco, Lorrha GAA for the use or the hall, Eamonn & Ann Smyth, Mary Theresa Delaney for face painting, Rosaleen Delaney for her help and collecting raffle prizes and Darina Kelly for doing a raffle in the shop. I’d also like to thank everyone who sponsored prizes for the raffle. To  Tearaways, Centra, Tesco, Butler’s pharmacy , Buckley’s Supervalu Birr, Discount store in Birr, Lorrha GAA, Michael Briody,  Robert Notley, Finns Daybreak, Blás, O’Mearas, Lorraines Hair Salon in Portumna, and Gerry Flynn Supervalu in Banagher. Church News.

Anyone wishing to have an anniversary Mass offered for a ‘loved one’ at Sunday Mass can do do by booking in the sacristy on Saturday night or Sunday morning after Mass. You are asked not to phone the sacristan or priest to book a Mass as all diaries are kept in the respective churches.
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament  continues  every Thursday from 10am to 10pm in Rathcabbin  Church. We invite all parishioners to come and stay a while in the presence of Jesus.

Vocations Workshop.

A vocations workshop is being organised for the Munster Dioceses, inviting any person interested in being a diocesan priest to experience a time of reflection and discernment.  The workshop is on February 5th and 6th in Thurles.   Contact Fr. Ignatius McCormack  086 2777179.

Bereavement Support at Parish level.

Training will shortly begin to provide the training needed to offer support.  You might find out more by visiting the Bethany support Bereavement website,  www.bethany.ie  or contact your local P.P. or someone from the Parish Pastoral Council.

Art Classes for Children

Art & Craft classes (5 years up) on Saturdays at 4pm and 5.30pm, starting on January 30th.  Drawing classes (9 years up) on Wednesdays at 7pm, starting on January 27th in Bramble Art Studio, Lorrha, for 6 weeks. Please contact Ute: 087-9151356 or 090-974712. Early booking advisable.

Rainbows Programme.

Borrisokane Community College will be commencing a Rainbows Programme in the coming weeks.  This programme is for primary or secondary students who may have suffered a bereavement or separation.  Please contact Louise Ryan (Borrisokane CC) on 067 27268 for more information.

Open Night.

Banagher Coláiste na Sionna, Open night for sixth class students and their parents/ guardians takes place on Thursday, 28th January commencing at 7.30p.m.

 Date For Your Diary.

Rathcabbin Players booking line is now open for their forthcoming comedy “Play On” by Rick Abbott. There is a big cast involved and they will be on stage from the 5th to 7th February and again the second week end from the 11th to 14th. Curtains up at 8.30pm. sharp. Bridge Closure.

Portumna Bridge will be closed from 8pm to 6am from January 25th to February 6th weather permitting.

Spring De-Clutter.

Thinking of clearing out the wardrobe to make room for the Spring collection? Lorrha Development/ Tidy Towns continue with unused clothes collection throughout the Winter months. De-clutter your wardrobe, attack your attic, recycle all unwanted/unused items of clothing to make room for your Spring collection. We will accept any kind of bag or in bags provided by the committee. We can collect your unwanted items. Just call or text  (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (086) 8355405 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows and cushions, carpets, rugs and mats (including bath, shower and toilet mats), soiled or wet clothing. We appreciate your support. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep two adults employed.

Ardara Walking Club Reminder.

The Ardara Walking club will take on a four hour walk through Portumna Forest Park on Sunday January 31st. Meeting point is The Ferry Inn at 11.00am. Walk leader Liam Mannion can be contacted on (086) 8392056 for further details.

Fundraising Table Quiz.

A  table quiz  to raise funds for the maintenance of Rathcabbin village will take place on Friday 29th January 2016  in Kelly’s Last Chance Bar . Raffle on the night for lots of locally sponsored prizes.  Come out of hibernation for a fun night out.

GAA News

Auction: The Auction and Sale of Work will take place on Sunday, 31st January at 2pm. Six weeks after the original date, we finally hold our annual winter auction which as always will have plenty of fuel and farm produce.

Fun Wall competition: As part of the Auction & Sale of Work on Sunday, there will also be a Fun Wall competition in the Sports Hall for both adults and juveniles. Trophies are on the way from our friends at Lyons in Killimor. A big thank you to Ute and Lisa Duggan, Louise & Katie Downes and to Nóirín Cronin and James Dunne for their work in painting the mural on the wall last weekend.

Coaching Course: A Foundation Coaching course will take place in the club over two nights on Thursday, 28th January & Wednesday, 3rd February in the GAA Centre. Anyone undertaking the course must have completed a Child Welfare Course in advance which will take place this evening (Wednesday, 27th January) in the GAA Centre at 7pm at €10 per person. Juvenile Presentation Night: The Lorrha U12 footballers, U13 hurlers and the Lorrha Rovers U16 hurlers will be presented with their 2015 divisional championship medals this Saturday night, 30th January in the GAA Centre at 7.30pm. Special guests will be our own Patrick Maher and Tipperary captain Brendan Maher. All are welcome to attend.

Senior Hurling: Lorrha have been drawn with Kilruane MacDonaghs, Clonoulty-Rossmore and Portroe in the group stage of the County Senior Hurling Championship.

Lotto: Our jackpot is now €5,400 with a Match 3 pot of €100. Thank you for your continued support. You can play our lotto online at www.locallotto.ie where it is easy to play every week. Tickets are €2 each or three for €5.

Membership: for 2016 is now due. Rates were also confirmed with all inclusive of Gym membership: €90 – Adult player; €50 – Minor/College student; €30 – Non-playing Adult (+€70 extra for gym membership for 12 months); €20 – Juvenile (16 and under); €90 – Family (2 adults and 2 children, capped at €100 for three or more children).

Closing date for membership for all adult and juvenile players is the last day of February to be insured in training and games while the closing date for all membership is 31st March. This date will be strictly enforced and no monies will be accepted beyond this date. It is important to remember that our total number of adult members by 31st March is the number the County Board will use towards our ticket allocations for Tipperary games so it is in your interest to have membership paid by then.Membership can be paid to club registrar Louise Mannion or can also be done online at www.locallotto.ie

Poker Classic: A date for your diary, Lorrha GAA Club will be holding a Poker Classic in the GAA Centre on Saturday, 12th March from 8pm. Tickets currently on sale and there will also be a draw as part of the night.

Gaeltacht Scholarships: Forms are available for 2nd, Transition & 5th year Secondary School members to apply for a Gaeltacht Scholarship during the summer. Details and forms are with Shane Brophy. Closing date for return of forms to the County Board is Sunday, 14th February.

Lorrha CountryFest: Tickets (€20) are available from Kevin Molloy for this years Country Music Festival at Moatfield which takes place on Sunday, 17th July.

Social Dancing: on Friday night to the music of Glenn Flynn. Dancing 9.30pm to 12.30am
