Rathcabbin Players in rehearsal for their forthcoming production on Rick Abbott’s 3 act comedy “Play On” which will be staged in Rathcabbin Hall on February 5,6,7 and again for four nights the following week-end 11, 12, 13, 14. The booking line will be open from January 28th on (087) 2360 096.

Final Reminder.

A public meeting to discuss progress on funding for repair works on roads in the Townslands of Coolross, Ballyea, Glenbower, Corrigeen, Culleen and Derry in Rathcabbin,  will take place in Rathcabbin Hall on Monday night January 18th at 8.00p.m. All are welcome.

Community Text Alert.

Following on from a recent meeting on home security which was held in Rathcabbin Hall, the Gardai are urging people from the parish to sign up for the community text alert security system. Forms are available from Kelly’s shop in Rathcabbin.

Church News.

World Youth Day with Pope Francis is the biggest gathering of young people in the world and will take place in Krakow, Poland, from July 24th to 31st 2016.  You must be over 18 years of age to travel on the pilgrimage. Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to Fr. John Donnelly Rathcabbin and to Pauline McIntyre and family, Portland on the death of Jos Donnelly, Kinnitty on January 7th.  After funeral Mass in St. Flannan’s Church Kinnitty on Sunday last burial took place in the local cemetery. May he rest in peace.

Apologies to all readers of the parish web site www.lorrhadorrha.ie  who were unable to access the entire contents of the photo gallery. We thank readers for bringing this error to our attention. The good news is the gallery is now repaired thanks to Mark and the many photographs from way back can be viewed again.

Date For Your Diary.

Rathcabbin Players are busy rehearsing for their forthcoming comedy “Play On” by Rick Abbott. There is a big cast involved and they will be on stage from the 5th to 7th February and again the second week end from the 11th to 14th. Not one to be missed.

Spring De-Clutter.

Thinking of clearing out the wardrobe to make room for the Spring collection? Lorrha Development/ Tidy Towns continue with unused clothes collection throughout the Winter months. De-clutter your wardrobe, attack your attic, recycle all unwanted/unused items of clothing to make room for your Spring collection. We will accept any kind of bag or in bags provided by the committee. We can collect your unwanted items. Just call or text  (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (086) 8355405 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows and cushions, carpets, rugs and mats (including bath, shower and toilet mats), soiled or wet clothing. We appreciate your support. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep two adults employed.

North Final.

Commiserations is extended to the under 21 team who went down to Borrisoleigh in the final on Sunday last 3.10 to 1.7. Missing three players through injury, Lorrha went ahead after the break but their opponents struck back with two unanswered goals to close Lorrha out. Hard luck lads.

Portumna Forest Park.

Ireland’s national forestry company, Coillte, is encouraging people to make use of the Portumna Forst Park mountain bike trail network. There are four looped trails in the park ranging from multi-assess trail suitable for all visitors of approximately 1km length, to a long multi use trail of over 10kms for walkers and cyclists. For something more physically demanding there is an extensive mountain bike trail and trail centre in Portumna.

GAA News

Under 21: Hard luck to our under 21’s who lost the North ‘B’ final to Borris-Ileigh in Moneygall on Saturday, 3-10 to 1-7. Having come from five points down to lead going into the final quarter, the concession of two late goals ended our hopes. Thanks to the players for their commitment for what was an elonganted championship as well as to manager Hubert Hogan, coach David Needham and selectors Aidan McIntyre and Shane Brophy for their work with the team and also to the supporters who turned up in large numbers.

Auction date change: The Auction and Sale of Work will take place on Sunday, 31stJanuary at 2pm. Timber cutting resumes this week and we ask all members to give some time to aid this important fundraiser.

Coaching Course: A Foundation Coaching course will take place in the club over two nights on January 28th & February 3rd next in the GAA Centre. Anyone undertaking the course must have completed a Child Welfare Course in advance which will take place on Wednesday, 27th January in the GAA Centre at 7pm at €10 per person.
