                    Another Award For Lorrha Development Association

The first Nenagh Municipal District Awards night was held in the Civic Offices, Nenagh recently. Cathaoirleach Cllr. Ger Darcy said in his address that ‘voluntary organisations deserve recognition for their spirit of volunteerism and the awards recognised their contribution in helping to attract tourists to the Nenagh Municipal District area’.  Lorrha Development Association were awarded for their hosting of the visit of Cllr. Wayne Sanford, President of the Shire of Collie who laid a wreath at Martin O’Meara’s monument which was erected by the Development Association in honour of the Lorrha V.C. recipient who is buried in Perth. There to accept the award from Cathaoirleach Cllr. Ger Darcy was Louis McCormack, Chairman, Lorrha Development, Rose Mannion, Treasurer with on left Ms. Rosemary Joyce District Administrator.

Church News.

Mass will be celebrated in Rathcabbin Church on Friday January 1st at 7.30pm the First Friday and also the Feast of Mary, Mother of God.

Late Marie Tuohy.

The tragic death took place as a result of a fire in her home of Marie Tuohy, Kilregane, Lorrha on December 23rd. A familiar figure around the village and in nearby Portumna where she did her shopping, Marie lived for a long number of years in England returning to Lorrha some years ago. She was a quiet lady who kept very much to herself but she will be missed from the locality and by her family and neighbours. Predeceased in recent months by her sister Josie she is survived by her sister Ann (England) and brother Sean (Lorrha) to whom sympathy is extended. Her remains will repose in Bushy Park Nursing Home, Borrisokane on Wednesday evening Dec. 30th from 4.30 to 6.30pm. with removal to St. Ruadhan’s Church Lorrha for 7.00pm. After funeral Mass on Thursday at 11.00am burial will take place in the adjoining cemetery. May she rest in peace.

Sympathy.  

Sympathy is extended to Sean Moore and family Portland on the death of his sister Ann Shanahan, Borrisoleigh which occurred recently. After funeral Mass in the Sacred Heart Church Borrisoleigh on Dec. 22nd. burial took place in St. Brigid’s Cemetery. May she rest in peace.

Follow Up Public Meeting.

Following on from a recent public meeting regarding the atrocious condition of the roads in the Townslands of Coolross, Ballyea, Glenbower, Corrigeen, Culleen and Derry in Rathcabbin, a follow up public meeting with a  report on whether funding is available or not, will take place in Rathcabbin Hall on Monday night January 18th at 8.00p.m. All are welcome.

Winter De-Clutter.

Thinking of clearing out the wardrobe to make room for the Winter collection? Lorrha Development/ Tidy Towns continue with unused clothes collection throughout the Winter months. De-clutter your wardrobe, attack your attic, recycle all unwanted/unused items of clothing to make room for your Winter collection. We will accept any kind of bag or in bags provided by the committee. We can collect your unwanted items. Just call or text  (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (086) 8355405 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows and cushions, carpets, rugs and mats (including bath, shower and toilet mats), soiled or wet clothing. We appreciate your support. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep two adults employed.

Portumna Fit Town.

Portumna getting set to battle for fittest Galway Town for a second year running. The deadline for application is fast approaching so Cllr. Anne Rabbitte, Orla Kennedy, Vincent OHara & Sarah Killeen as a committee are calling on those to please come forward with all suggestions for the year ahead? How your club/school/group/business or organisation in the town and surrounds would like to partake in fit Towns 2016.  What initiatives your club would like to roll out during the fit towns  judging period of February 1st – March 13th? Portumna Arts Group Annual Celebration, 6th January 2016

Portumna Arts Group annual Arts Dinner will this year take place in O’Meara’s Restaurant on Jan 6th at 7.15 pm. Varied menu available for €15 (2 courses) or €20 (3 courses).
