2016 Lorrha Calendar.

There is still plenty of time to purchase a copy of the 2016 Lorrha/Dorrha Parish Calendar which is on sale throughout the parish and also in Portumna and Borrisokane. Carol Service Reminder.

An Ecumenical Carol Service will be held in St. Ruadhan’s C.O.I.Lorrha on Thursday 17th December at 8pm. Mulled wine and minced pies will be served afterwards. All are very welcome to attend.

Children’s Disco.

A children’s Christmas Disco in aid of C.F. Irl. will be held on Sunday 20th December in the GAA clubhouse from 6 to 8.00pm. There will be a special visitor on the night coming all the way from the North Pole. Entry fee €5 family discount includes entry fee per child plus free entry into a draw which will include passes to “Tearaways” and more too. There will also be face painting on the night. All money raised will go to Cystic Fibrosis Ireland. Your support will be appreciated.

News from Lorha School

Congratulations and well done to our two book winners in the Portumna Library Art competition          Chloe Kennedy and Caoimhe O’Meara. The girls received their winnings at a prize giving ceremony on 2nd Dec. which was held in the library. Well done girls.

Knitting

Kintting classes commenced recently and our thanks to all the adults who volunteered to come along to the school and get involved in this event.

Swimming:

The annual swimming lessons have now finished in Birr Leisure centre. Our thanks to the life guards who were brilliant with the pupils and to Marion in Birr Leisure Centre.

Green Flag.

Sean Hartigan from An Taisce visited the school recently and took the pupils on a nature walk around the village. He was most encouraging and knowledgeable about nature all around us as we walk or cycle to school or for pleasure, reminding the pupils of what we can see, smell and hear. It was a most informative and enjoyable time for all the pupils as we continue with our efforts to secure our Fourth green Flag, the theme of which is travel.

Sympathy.

All in Scoil Lua Naofa extend our sympathy to our Resource teacher Mr.Hogan on the death of his grandfather Paschal Harty, Cloughjourdan recently. RIP

Gratitude.

Many thanks to Lorrha Variety Group for staging the comedy “Drinking Habits” for an extra night performance, to all who supported the night and to the Parents Association for organising the night. The proceeds will be put to good use in the school.

Church News.

Daily Mass in Lorrha Church will be at 9.30a.m. – not 7.30p.m.as usual.
Youth 2000 National Christmas Retreat will be taking place from 18th – 20th December 2015 at  Newbridge College, Newbridge, Co Kildare. This is a fantastic annual Catholic youth event which attracts around 600 -700 people each year from all over Ireland. Contact National Office on 01 6753690 or email Dublin@youth2000.ie .
The Christmas Reconciliation Service takes place on Monday 21st December at 8pm in St Peter & Paul’s Church, Borrisokane. It will be led by newly ordained native of Crinkill, Fr. Michael Geraghty and as usual a number of priests will be available for confession. All choir members are requested to attend.

Invitation.

Redwood NS would like to invite all preschoolers and toddlers along with their parents / grandparents into the school on the following date Fri, 18th Dec @ 11 a.m. – Christmas Carols & Special Guest Santa!!! This event free of charge and everybody is most welcome! Please join us for some Christmas fun and entertainment!!

St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement.

We would like to wish all our members a happy and peaceful Christmas and good health in the New Year. On Wednesday 16th we will get together for our Christmas party. All members welcome. We will return on 13th of January and we look forward to seeing you all there.

Christmas Carols.

Rathcabbin National School will present Christmas Carols and Nativity Play this Wednesday 16th December at 7.00p.m.  in Rathcabbin Church.  All are very welcome.

Christmas Party.

The Annual Christmas Party will be held in St.Kieran’s Nursing Home on Sunday coming 20th December at 2pm. Everyone welcome.

Winter De-Clutter.

Thinking of clearing out the wardrobe to make room for the Winter collection? Lorrha Development/ Tidy Towns continue with unused clothes collection throughout the Winter months. De-clutter your wardrobe, attack your attic, recycle all unwanted/unused items of clothing to make room for your Winter collection. We will accept any kind of bag or in bags provided by the committee. We can collect your unwanted items. Just call or text  (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (086) 8355405 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows and cushions, carpets, rugs and mats (including bath, shower and toilet mats), soiled or wet clothing. We appreciate your support. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep two adults employed.

Defibrillator Training Course Reminder.

Now that the village of Lorrha has a defibrillator, we need people within the Lorrha village and surrounding areas (Abbeyville, Carrigahorig, Curragha, Portland, and Redwood)  to train as Cardiac First Responders.  If anyone, young and not so young, is interested in taking part in a CPR training course, could they please give their names to Nancy on 087 761 3458.  The course will be held in the Community Hall in Lorrha and the cost is €10. per person.

Interested in Training and Working in Healthcare? Offaly Local Development Company in association with SOLAS/ETB invites applications for a 6 month full-time FETAC Level 5 “Healthcare Support” course commencing in Birr, February 2016. You are welcome to make informal enquiries to 087 738 5989.

Offaly Local Development Company are running a FETAC level 4 Landscaping & Horticulture Local Training Initiative in St. Rynagh’s College of Further Education, Banagher. It is a 26 week full-time programme ,commencing February 2016.
