Results.

Lorrha Development/Tidy Towns committee wish to thank everyone who helped in whatever way to make the Christmas market and Auction on Sunday last the success that it was. Our thanks to all who donated items and to the many who turned up on the day and purchased items. To all who sold and purchased tickets for the raffle, volunteers who offered to help and all the stall holders who came to sell their wares. Without your continued good will and support, this could not be done. Terry Heenan was the winner of the food hamper in the raffle while the five remaining prize winners were Gerry Needham, Mike Brennan, Gary Hogan, Teresa Dillon, Violet Harding. The popular guess the weight of the cake was won by Eileen Mannion while Ann Brennan was the winner of the Treasure Hunt. Well done to one and all and sincere thanks again.

2016 Lorrha Calendar.

There is still plenty of time to post a copy of the 2016 Lorrha/Dorrha Parish Calendar to loved ones wherever they may be in the world. First aid Course
A first aid course will be run in Rathcabbin Hall on Monday next Dec 14th 2015 by Birr First responders group at a cost of €35 . A  comprehensive handbook comes with this course. Please book your place at Kellys shop or text 087. 2140412.

Christmas Party.

North Tipperary Ploughing will hold their annual Christmas party on Saturday night 12th December in Paddy’s Terryglass. Numbers please by Friday 11th to Denis on (087) 7793719. Please note that orders will be taken at 7.30pm on the night with the meal served at 8pm sharp.

Carol Service.

An Ecumenical Carol Service will be held in St. Ruadhan’s C.O.I.Lorrha on Thursday 17th December at 8pm. Mulled wine and minced pies will be served afterwards. All are very welcome to attend.

Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to Theresa Dillon and family, Lorrha  also the O’Meara and Cahalan families on the death of Theresa’s aunt Nora Murphy, Aglish, nee Hough, wife of the late James, late of Sharragh, Rathcabbin. After funeral Mass in Aglish Church on Friday last 4th. burial took place in Lorrha Cemetery. May she rest in peace.
Sympathy is also extended to Mary Coen and family Lorrha on the death of her Aunt which occurred in England last week. May she rest in peace.
Sympathy is extended to Jim Hynes Portumna on the death of his wife Mary T. on Friday 4th. After funeral Mass in St. Brigid’s Church Portumna on Monday last, burial took place in Abbey Cemetery. May she rest in peace.
Church News.

Choir Practice in preparation for Advent & Christmas on Thursday night 10th at 8.00pm in Rathcabbin Church.
The Christmas Reconciliation Service takes place on Monday 21st December at 8pm in St Peter & Paul’s Church, Borrisokane. It will be led by newly ordained native of Crinkill, Fr. Michael Geraghty and as usual a number of priests will be available for confession. All choir members are requested to attend.

Lorrha Student Competing in Young Scientist.

“Does coding help problem solving in maths”?  This is the name of the project which two Portumna Community School students Eoin Gallagher and Stephen Conroy are trying to find out.  Eoin and his partner in this project Stephen Conroy are one of five groups from Portumna Community School  who have qualified for the Young Scientist competition to be held in early January in the RDS, Dublin. They are carrying out a study to determine if students’ mathematical ability can be improved through exercises in computer coding.  Eoin is son of Rodney and Antoinette, Grange, Lorrha and is a former pupil of Lorrha N.S. where it all began. Good luck lads.

Reminder.

Lorrha Variety Group will perform ‘Drinking Habits’  this Wednesday night December 9th. Doors open at 8pm with curtains up at 8.30pm. Admission:  adults €10, children €5. This performance is a fundraiser for Lorrha N.S. and is organised by the Parents Association. Your support will be much appreciated.

Christmas Party.

The Annual Christmas Party will be held in St.Kieran’s Nursing Home on Sunday 20th December at 2pm. Everyone welcome.

Winter De-Clutter.

Thinking of clearing out the wardrobe to make room for the Winter collection? Lorrha Development/ Tidy Towns continue with unused clothes collection throughout the Winter months. De-clutter your wardrobe, attack your attic, recycle all unwanted/unused items of clothing to make room for your Winter collection. We will accept any kind of bag or in bags provided by the committee. We can collect your unwanted items. Just call or text  (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (086) 8355405 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows and cushions, carpets, rugs and mats (including bath, shower and toilet mats), soiled or wet clothing. We appreciate your support. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep two adults employed.

Defibrillator Training Course.

Now that the village of Lorrha has a defibrillator, we need people within the Lorrha village and surrounding areas (Abbeyville, Carrigahorig, Curragha, Portland, and Redwood)  to train as Cardiac First Responders.  If anyone, young and not so young, is interested in taking part in a CPR training course, could they please give their names to Nancy on 087 761 3458.  The course will be held in the Community Hall in Lorrha and the cost is €10. per person.

Interested in Training and Working in Healthcare? Offaly Local Development Company in association with SOLAS/ETB invites applications for a 6 month full-time FETAC Level 5 “Healthcare Support” course commencing in Birr, February 2016. You are welcome to make informal enquiries to 087 738 5989.

Offaly Local Development Company are running a FETAC level 4 Landscaping & Horticulture Local Training Initiative in St. Rynagh’s College of Further Education, Banagher. It is a 26 week full-time programme ,commencing February 2016.
