Late Mary Duffy.

The peaceful death took place on Sunday 15th November of Mary Duffy, Graigue, Rathcabbin.. In her 91st year, Mary worked very hard all of her life on the family farm, helping to raise and care for her younger siblings. She had a smile for everyone and welcomed callers to her home into her kitchen for a chat and a cup of tea.  A founder member of the Rathcabbin I.C.A. group, Mary remained very active on the committee for a long number of years. She was also a prominent member of the ladies catering committee of North Tipperary Ploughing where she was a regular serving teas, soups etc. She loved socializing and chatting with people and she made plenty of time to do just that in her brother Dinny’s shop and filling station at Walshpark where she would spend hours talking to the customers. She always enjoyed good health and it was only in recent months after suffering a fall that her health began to deteriorate. A devout catholic, Mary travelled to Lourdes on a number of occasions and enjoyed the experience immensely. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her but in particular by her family. Sympathy is extended to her sister Ann Ryan (Roscrea), brothers Tom and Dinny (Birr), nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brother in-law, relatives, neighbours and friends on their sad loss. After funeral Mass in Our Lady Queen of Ireland Church Rathcabbin on Tuesday 17th. burial took place in Pallas Cemetery, Rathcabbin. May she rest in peace.

10th Anniversary Celebrations.

St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement Association recently celebrated their 10th Anniversary and held a function in Coolbawn Quay with music provided by Pat & Richie.  Over the 10 years, 31 of our members passed away, RIP.  All the deceased members were remembered at our short Thanksgiving Service which was held after our meal.  During the service each deceased member’s name was read out and a rose with their name on was brought up to a table.  Once the service was over the roses were taken by our members to the quayside and placed in the water to float out into Lough Derg.  Some very touching words were said at the quayside to remember them. On the same day, Nancy White on behalf of St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement Association and Kevin Barry who represented the Lorrha National School Past Pupils Reunion Committee presented Councillor Michael O’Meara with a defibrillator for the village of Lorrha. We would like to say a very big ‘THANK YOU’ to everyone who supported and encouraged us over the past 10 years.
