Schools Re-Open

Rathcabbin N.S. will open their doors for the new school year on Friday morning the 28th at 9.20am while Lorrha and Redwood will open on Monday next August 31st . Lorrha hours will remain unchanges, from 9.20am but you are reminded that Redwood NS have changed their hours. School will open at 8.30am for pupils to arrive with classes starting at 8.50. School will finish at 1.30 pm for infant classes and 2.30 pm for all other classes. There will be an afterschool homework/activity club available for all pupils immediately after school up to 5pm daily. New infants can be collected at the earlier time of 12 noon for the first week of school.

Gratitude.

Everyone at Redwood NS would like to express their utmost thanks to the Mark Heffernan trust for purchasing a defibrillator for the school which was delivered last week.

CPR Course For Teenagers.

A CPR course for teenagers aged between 14 and 17 years of age will take place in Rathcabbin Hall on Saturday 5th September from 6 to 9pm. Please contact Darina on- 057 9139981 or Betty on 087 6667374 to book your place.

Adult Defibrillator Course.

The adult defibrillator course in Rathcabbin Hall on Friday 4th September is now fully booked. Another course evening will take place on Friday 18th September in the hall at 7pm. at a cost of €10.  Please contact Darina on- 057 9139981 or Betty on 087 6667374 to book your place.  It’s a simple skill that could save a life.

Historical Fancy Dress.

A historical fancy dress and BBQ will take place in Kelly’s Rathcabbin on Friday night 28th at 9.30pm. to kick off the parish heritage festival. Prizes will be awarded to the best dressed and to the best historical karaoke competition winners. Music by DJ Ray.

Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to Ann and Terry Smyth and family Clonmona, Rathcabbin on the death of Ann’s father John Healy, Mayo which occurred last week.  May he rest in peace.

Lourdes Pilgrimage.

The Autumn Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes will leave Shannon Airport on Sunday, Oct. 4th, returning on Friday, October 9th. Autumn De-Clutter.

Thinking of clearing out the wardrobe to make room for the Autumn collection? Lorrha Development/ Tidy Towns continue with unused clothes collection throughout the Summer months. De-clutter your wardrobe, attack your attic, recycle all unwanted/unused items of clothing to make room for your Autumn collection. We will accept any kind of bag or in bags provided by the committee. We can collect your unwanted items. Just call or text  (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (086) 8355405 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, Pillows and cushions, Carpets, rugs and mats (including bath, shower and toilet mats), Soiled or wet clothing. We appreciate your support. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep two adults employed.

Portumna Draft Plan.

Draft Portumna Local Area Plan on display in The Hub Portumna. Anybody who owns land or a building in Portumna should view it. There are changes that concern you. Changes regarding flooding rezoning and dezoning. You have until Friday 11th September to make submissions. Cllr. Anne Rabbitte will be available in The Hub by appointment.

Art  Exhibition.

Portumna’s Shorelines Arts Exhibition 2015 will run this year from 4th-26th September at The Gallery at The Workhouse. Local artists wishing to submit a piece are asked to bring it to the Workhouse on Monday 24th August from 6-7.30 pm. Further details from 086-3195603.

Visual Art at Shorelines 2015..Calling All Artists.

Once again, the Gallery at The Workhouse will be home to the Shorelines Art Exhibition for the month of September including the festival weekend September 17th-20th. Included in the exhibition will be the artwork from the local artists and members of Wolf Lorien’s weekly art classes in Portumna as well as guest professional artists.  If you are interested in exhibiting one of your works, please bring it to the Workhouse on Monday 24th August from 6-7.30 pm. Work submitted after this date may not be exhibited as space is limited. The cost is €5 to help towards the cost of displaying materials and insurance. Please, please make sure your work is ready for hanging – pictures should be framed and have a cord or wire at the back! If you wish to offer your piece for sale, please also decide on the price you want to ask in advance.

We greatly look forward to seeing your work and to a very successful exhibition that will show the wealth of talent there is within the area!

GAA News.

Lotto: Our jackpot is now €5,850. Thank you for your continued support. You can play our lotto online at www.locallotto.ie where it is easy to play every week. Tickets are €2 each or three for €5.

Senior: Following the victories for Killenaule and Eire Og Annacarty in the South and West finals respectively on Sunday, Lorrha are through to the last 16 of the county championship and have been drawn against Eire Og Annacarty in the preliminary quarter finals, likely to be on weekend 12-13 September. We have already lost to the West champions in the group stage of the county championship last May.

Junior Hurling: Hard luck to the junior hurlers who lost 1-14 to 1-13 to Borrisokane in the Junior ‘B’ Championship quarter final in Cloughjordan on Saturday evening. An injury time penalty for Borrisokane was the difference despite a gutsy effort from our lads. Thanks to the players and mentors for their efforts throughout the yeat, which included winning the league.

Junior Football: Lorrha will take on Shannon Rovers in the first round of the Junior ‘A’ championship in Moatfield this Sunday at 12 noon.

Minor: Following Borrisokane’s victory over Silvermines last week, Lorrha have been pipped to a semi-final spot by Borrisokane on the head to head record despite the sides being tied on six points apiece. Thanks to the players and mentors for their efforts over the course of the summer.

Under 16: Lorrha/Shannon Rovers beat Ballina 2-15 to 2-9 in their last group game on Monday week last. They have topped the group unbeaten and will now play either Burgess in the semi-final, next Monday, 31st August in either Moatfield or Ballinderry.

Tipperary GAA Clubs Draw: We ask all promoters to bring their accounts up to date.

Tipperary: Best of luck to the Tipperary minor footballers in the All Ireland semi-final against Kildare on Sunday.

All Ireland Final Tickets: will be drawn for among club members only in Moatfield next Monday night, 31st August at 8.30pm.

Parent & Toddler Group: beginning on Tuesday, 8th September from 10am to 12pm.

Social Dancing: continues on Friday night to the music of Checkers. Dancing 9.30pm to 12.30am.
