A remarkable young looking 102 year old Bridie Daly, nee Duggan, flew in from Boston last week and is pictured here with her 97 year old sister in law Katie Duggan, Lorrha and her family Tom, Kathleen, Carmel, Niall, Lisa. Back: Bill, Ute, Oliver (Chairman of the Lorrha & Dorrha Heritage Gathering Festival), Martina, Mary Ann. Bridie is sister of the late Tom Duggan Portland, and accompanying her is her daughter Mary Ann and partner Bill. Born in 1911, Bridie left Cobh on the 29th April 1929 on board an English Liner which took one week to take her to her Aunts and Uncles in the U.S. Life in Boston was far better than in Ireland and she described her going abroad as ‘like going on a vacation’. Bridie soon settled in to ‘the great Irish community there’ where she met her late husband Bill Daly from Cork and they married and raised a family of six. A regular visitor, she loves coming home and was all talk about the forthcoming Lorrha and Dorrha Heritage Festival which takes place from June 19th to the 24th.
