News from Lorrha School.

We participated in National Spring Clean, picking up litter around the village. Joined by members of Lorrha Development, our Juniors covered the school grounds while our Senior classes concentrated their efforts on the village, approach roads and the housing estates. It was a very worthwhile exercise as we continue to prepare for our Third Green flag, the theme of which is Water. Our thanks to all who helped on the day.

Lorrha and Dorrha Historical Society would like to thank everyone who supported our recent Medieval Night which was held in Mahers, Lorrha.  A great night of food and entertainment was had by all. Tracing Relations.

Chris Wilkins is researching his family history and has made parish connections. He has found that Timothy Walkins family from Sharragh, Lorrha was born there 1835- to parents John Walkins and Mary Horan. His sister was Mary Walkins. Timothy emigrated to N.Z. where he became a gold miner in Victoria and Otago NZ where he settled. He married Ellen Browne from Emily in Co.Tipperary. He named his farm in NZ Sharrow after the place he was born. His sister Mary married James Heenan in Victoria Australia.
We would love to hear from anyone in Lorrha connected to this family. Chris would love to hear from anyone in the parish who may be connected to this family or anyone who can help him with his research. He may be contacted by post at 1 Wallace Street, Roslyn, Dunedin, New Zealand 9010 or by email at chrisclaire@hotmail.com.

Support Service.

The Mid-West Regional Drugs Task Force is hosting an information evening on Substance Misuse Support Services available to North Tipperary on Monday 20th May in Damer Court Hotel, Roscrea from 7pm to 9pm.  The evening is an open event showcasing the services available in North Tipperary for those living with substance misuse as well as for their families.  Many of the services are new and it is an opportunity to meet with them and find out what support they give and how you can get in touch with them.  There will also be information stands on courses in addiction studies from component certificate level to diploma standard. The event is for the public and we would encourage all organisations working directly with families and individuals to attend and encourage others to attend.

Smile Awhile & Laugh a Little Every Day.

A man was walking on the beach one day and he found a bottle half buried in
the sand. He decided to open it. Inside was a genie. The genie said, “I will
grant you three wishes and three wishes only.” The man thought about his
first wish and decided, “I think I want 1 million dollars transferred to a
Swiss bank account. POOF! Next he wished for a Ferrari red in color. POOF!
There was the car sitting in front of him. He asked for his final wish, ” I
wish I was irresistible to women.” POOF! He turned into a box of chocolates.
