Lorrha Notes
Late Teresa O’Dowd.
The unexpected death occurred in Dublin on Saturday January 12th of Teresa O’Dowd, The Lake, Lorrha and Dublin. Teresa who was pre-deceased by her husband Tom five years ago, had reached the age of 79 years. Nee Kennedy, she came from a popular and well liked family. She spent the summer months mostly in her home in Lorrha and the rest of the year with her daughter in Dublin. Teresa was a kind and generous lady who had a great welcome for everyone who called to her home and no one left without the cup of tea and the chat. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her but most of all by her family. Sympathy is extended to her daughter Carol, son Brendan, grandchildren, son –in-law, brothers, sisters, relatives, neighbours and friends on their great loss. After funeral Mass on Thursday 17th in St. Ruadhan’s Church Lorrha, burial took place afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. May she rest in peace.

Sympathy is extended to Antoinette Haugh and family Carrigahorig on the death of her mother Mary Sweeney. After funeral Mass in St. Michael’s Church Ballinasloe on Saturday 19th burial took place in Creagh Cemetery. May she rest in peace. Sympathy is extended to Mary O’Meara and family Liscreen, Lorrha on the death of her mother Mary Hayes. After funeral Mass in St. Ruadhan’s Church Lorrha on Sunday 20th burial took place in Clonoghill Cemetery, Birr. May she rest in peace.

The polishing is over and the time has come to go on stage. Rathcabbin Players present a three act hilarious comedy “The Two Loves of Gabriel Foley” by playwrite Jimmy Keary in Rathcabbin Hall from Thursday night January 24th to Sunday night 27th. at 8.30p.m. and the following week-end for three nights only, Friday Feb 1st to Sunday 3rd. Heritage Festival Meeting.
The parish of Lorrha and Dorrha extend the hand of welcome to all with the official launch of “Lorrha / Dorrha Heritage Festival” as part of Ireland’s “The Gathering” 2013, on Wednesday June 19th. A festival of events will take place over six days in Lorrha, Redwood and Rathcabbin. Some events that have been confirmed are the Bicentenary Celebrations of St. Ruadhan’s Catholic Church on Thursday June 20th, unveiling of a plaque to Martin O’Meara VC followed by a pageant, music and food in Friars Park on Sunday 23rd, Lorrha N.S. re-union dating back to the 1950′s and 60′s, Medieval night, GAA event and more. Anyone wishing to help out in progressing these plans and setting up further events is invited to a meeting in the GAA clubhouse next Monday night January 28th at 8.00p.m.Your help is required so do please come along. Brides Wanted.
Animo Television who recorded the Kelly shop make over in Rathcabbin, are recording a new series for RTE One. This is a new format called “The Mother of all Weddings” where a couple planning to get married hands over the reins to their mothers to plan their big day! The lucky couple will receive €10,000 in cash towards the wedding, and the wedding will be planned for early Summer this year. Gratitude.
The Nenagh branch of Saint Vincent de Paul wish to thank all the parishioners in Lorrha, Redwood and Rathcabbin who donated all the food from the “Giving Tree” which took place for a number of weeks over the Christmas period. To date, the branch have given out 119 food hampers.

Social dancing continues in Lorrha GAA clubhouse on Friday night’s and this week dancing is to the music of Catherine and Images.
