On Saturday March 28th local residents of The Ferry and Portland gathered at The Ferry Inn for their annual cleanup. As ever the volunteers were full of enthusiasm and set to their task eagerly. After the cleanup the group were treated to a lovely lunch by Barry and Teresa Walker of The Ferry Inn. The cleanup gave the chance for the locals to catch up and socialize as well as improving their local area. One of the regular volunteers was Valerie Foley County Council candidate. "This is a perfect example of responsible citizenship in action" said Valerie. "Here we have local people willing to come together and clean up their local area. It gives the people of The Ferry and Portland a real sense of teamwork and community. It is also a great family day out giving local children a chance to see what active citizenship can do."
The day was a great success and the cleanup group is already looking forward to next year.
