Family Fun Day.

Lorrha Development Association are holding their Annual Family Fun Day on Sunday June 7th. This years event will hold a dog show that will be bigger and better than ever before which will include a total of ten classes as per the following:
1. Best small dog / bitch.
2. Best large dog / bitch.
3. Best veteran dog / bitch over 5 years.
4. Best child handler (National School age).
5. Best cross breed dog / bitch.
6. Best gun dog / bitch.
7. Best trick by dog / bitch.
8. Waggiest tail.
9. Best dressed dog / bitch.
10. Best dog / bitch never to have won a 1st. prize.
Champion: Best in show.
Reserve Champion: Reserve best in show.
There will also be an Agility show. €5. 3 Practice rounds and Competition Entry. €2. Entry competition only. Details on parish web site lorrhadorrha.ie.

Ducks on Sale.

Members of the Development committee are presently selling ducks for the annual duck race on the river during the fun day activities. Ducks cost €10 each and there are ten prizes ranging from €100 to €10. Please support. Also on sale is the very popular test your knowledge quiz sheet which this year is ‘Cities ‘n’ Places’. Entry fee here is €2 and there are 30 questions to be answered with a first prize of €100 and runner up gets €50.

Poster Free Village.

Political parties please note Lorrha Development Association are requesting that the village be left poster free. Your co-operation will be appreciated.

Little Feet Summer Camp.

For two weeks July 6th. to 10th. and July 13th. to 17th. Little feet summer camp will take place for children aged from 2 to 12 years. Activities include football hurling badminton hockey bouncing castle parachute games swimming art cooking and lots more. Time from 9.30 am to 3.30 p.m. and the cost is €85 per week. New Arrival.

Congratulations to Louise Mannion and Graham Downes Curraghagloss on the recent birth of their daughter Katie recently.

St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement Association.

Please note that there will be no meeting in the Clubhouse for the following 2 weeks: Wednesday 20th May and Wednesday 27th May. Normal meetings will resume on Wednesday 3rd June.

May Devotions.

The Annual May Devotions to Our Lady of Clonfert continue at 8.00p.m.Sunday to Friday and Saturday’s at 7. p.m.

Theology Course.

A one year restricted entry – Diploma in applied Theology ( Pastoral Studies) course will begin on September 21st. 2009 in Our Lady’s School of Evangelization Knock. Further information can be had by contacting (094) 9388245 or (087) 2351294.

National Pilgrimage.

St. Padre Pio National Pilgrimage to Holycross Abbey will take place on Sunday 31st. May from 1.30 to 4.00p.m.

Flower Power.

Members of Lorrha Development Association took to the streets last Wednesday evening to prepare the flower pots for summer planting. It was great to see the young people come out to help. They are the future of the village. Thanks to Liz Nancy Mary Tara Harry Amanda Rachel Trish Stephanie and Sarah. Well done all. We need more help though so do please come out for the next

Morning Courses.

Adult and Post Leaving Cert course will take place in Portumna Community School from September 2009 to May 2010. The course will include Care / Health Care Care Assistant/ classroom assistant. Features Fetac – Level 5 certification. Mornings only from 9.30 a.m to 1.30p.m. Applications welcome immediately and a full information evening will take place in early September. Healthy Heart Evening.

Portumna Community School are holding a “heart safe schools2 evening on Friday May 22nd. from 3.00p.m to 9.00p.m. Free service is available to parents / guardians / school staff over 40 years and who have not attended their GP in the last year for a cholesterol check. Easc assessment takes 20 minutes and fasting is not required. First come first served basis and only available by appointment. Contact Mary Gillooly on (091) 775906.

Bealtaine Festival In Lorrha.

Bealtaine is the May-time festival celebrating creativity in older people. St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement Association Lorrha are participating in this year’s celebrations to show that we are really ‘young at heart’ and that it is never too late to learn.
The following events will take place:
Sunday 31st May 2009 in Lorrha Community Hall from 10.30am to 5.00pm
There will be an Arts & Crafts Exhibition with a Cake Sale. Light Refreshments will be served and it’s open to the public so do please come and join us.
Also on Saturday 13th June 2009 there will be a Social Evening in Lorrha Community Hall from 9.00pm till late. Music will be provided by Richie Bourke and Pat Conlon. Light refreshments will be served.

Summer Camp.

Busy bodies summer camp takes place in Killeen National School starting on June 29th. for four weeks. Application forms from Kelly’s shop in Rathcabbin or call Ann on (057) 9121842

Outing.

South East Galway Archaeological and Historical Society are having a outing to West Offaly on Sunday May 24th. Sites include Lough Boora Parklands Pullough Boher Church Lemanaghan and Shannon Harbour. Meet outside Library in Banagher at 12.30p.m. Guide for the day will be James Scully.

Tipperary North County Enterprise Board are holding an Oppertunities Fair in the Abbey Court Hotel Nenagh on Tuesday 26th. May from 2 to 8.00p.m.

Tipperary Network of people with a disability in Ireland Ltd. are holding their Annual General Meeting at 3.00p.m in the Anner Hotel Thurles on Saturday May 23rd. Guest speaker will be Kathy Sinnot.

A Fifties child his first sounds the Swing Jazz Show tunes of his parents generation. Then 50s Rock n Roll 60s pop and Motown Blues RnB and Country and Western. Through all this ran the potent flavour of Irish traditional music and song.

“Suimhneas”.

North Tipperary cancer support centre “Suimhneas” is open in the Pastoral Centre Church Road Nenagh. This drop in centre will provide emotional support and practical help to people living with cancer and anyone affected by it. Opening times are Monday 10 – 2p.m. Tuesday 5p.m. -9p.m. and Wednesday to Friday 10a.m. to 2p.m. Phone (067) 73403.
